I don't think its a scare tactic, rather just one person's opinions. I do agree with most of his points, I disagree with others. However, he is correct in his historical assessment of sectarian groups and situations that have developed in other places, other times. I don't agree with his focus only on Mexifornia ... to me the issues facing the U.S. are legal only - not ethnic. I prefer to focus on the big picture, of all illegal aliens, from all countries... not just one ethnic group as he seems to.

That isn't xenophobia.
Please remember it was the democrats that also believe that saddam had WMDs and Bill Clinton sign a law for a change of leadership of Iraq.
Back to your orginal question.
The difference between this wave of immigration and others:
1. The others were legal
2. The assimlated into the culture and American culture grew more colorful. Where else in the world you can get taco pizza at Chinese buffet?
3. We have been a melting pot and if we are to make it we must keep the mix going. One of the biggest disservice we have are the people who ID themselves as (fill in the blank)- American.
We should consider ourselves just Americans PERIOD!
4. We have raise a generation of brats who demand everything be given to them and not have to work.
They want to be fed, cloth, house, healthcare, education and not have to pay for it.
Sorry but we all have to work like my forefathers had to work.

Think its realistic the speech and xenophobic but why should americans be when they laws promotes freedom for lots of things .. things that these other nations are deprive of thats an invitation when you look at the amount of nations in the US.The minority will soon be the majority.. who will rule who in the end...
Not only are they living in US but they are making a way for their families and utilising the education system and pushing for laws to pass They are getting all the good jobs ( esp compared to what they had back home)because some company smile that they can pay them less and keep more money in their pockets... so whatever happens is what US has brought on themselves

To the one poster who gave an example of the Swiss:
Switzerland has 3 cultures, but not the same as America does now. It is not based on Multiculturalism. Belgium also is comprised of 2 different languages. The difference between these countries and ours is that those cultures are all 1st world. There is no tension, no wanting one culture to dominate. However, now with the huge influx of Muslims, Switzerland is suffering. Those are the people who want their culture to dominate. In that sense, it is becoming very much like the US.
It is not xenophobic to want to preserve ones culture in ones country. In that sense, you can call Mexico xenophobic if you want to. It is not xenophobic to want to keep your country from collapsing.
What was said by Lamm is the truth. It is time we woke up to the danger.
* Huh? Adrian's argument doesn't agree with you. But whatever.

Those are scare tactics, sane a Bush did with WOMD, so he got extra powers.
Switzerland has 3 cultures, 3 languages and still a bastion of liberties, has been for ages, and immigrants, legal or not put strawberries in your table for $.99 a basket among other things, they come to earn a living, to work in fields that most Americans won´t touch. A day without Mexicans will ruin the economies, Do you know that in Los Angeles alone, if you expel all the illegal maids, the whole economies will go down, all the woman with children that work will have to be a Stay at home wife's, How many???? 1,000,000 plus and that is only in Los Angeles, most of illegals pay into SS and don´t get the benefits to name a few examples. What you read is plain Politics, old dirty politics, and hypocrites at that, bet you that some of them have an illegal maid and the garden is done by illegal workers, Must I say more?

It is a bit xenophobic in some manners but some things in it are true. It is scaremongering but there are somethings to look out for. I think the massive migrations of Irish, Scots, Germans, Italians, Russian, etc were hyped as well and were bigger as a whole then now and look at the good results we have now....eventhough people were predicting doom as well back then. It doesn't hurt to be cautious though and we do need enforce laws more when it comes to illegals, but you just have to have a good judgement to it and when you're the intended demographic of the scaremongering you have to be aware of the gains to be made from scaring the masses.

You aren't going to like my answer to this one, dear, but, truthfully, our country is in grave danger. Our freedoms are being stripped from us. The Constitution is being made a mockery of and we currently have an administration that is hell-bent on making themselves "rulers". We are continually paying more for EVERYTHING, which is quickly eliminating the middle class. Our freedoms are gone- we are being listened to, spied on, our ability to travel freely within the states is being taken from us, and, after another big catastrophe, there will be a movement to take our guns. Once we aren't armed, we are sitting ducks for whatever our government wants to happen to us. I love this country and I pray that I am wrong, but, my gut instinct is that we are on borrowed time right now. All "great powers" have fallen, and, I fear that our time is nearly up. There are so many different authors that are warning us about this, historically this is what has happened before the fall of a country.
I have been looking for "less civilized" countries to move to for about a year. We are getting passports now. I don't WANT to sell my home and leave my family, but, I feel we are getting to a very dangerous point- when we no longer have our freedoms, this country is a ticking time bomb. And, remember the world hates us. When we can't buy them off any more and they no longer fear us, I doubt they will have any use for us at all. And, with nuclear weapons......

Realistic, if carried to the logical ends that Lamm believes could happen. We're not there yet, but the paths we're on could lead us to the end result if we don't begin to realize that there is a general American culture that is not solely Eurocentric, and that there is nothing wrong with having a unifying language.

It is sad. People who don't know our history, and don't know what is happening in this country right now are calling us.. xenophobia.
My country has excepted more people from more places than any three other countries. But it is important to understand they were invited. They were invited, paid their own way.. did well.
The illegal aliens broke laws to get into this country, broke more laws with a fake I.D. (how else could they have gotten a job), broke more laws while they dipped into welfare, broke more laws while they worked under the table and did not pay taxes, broke more laws when they sent their kids to schools that demanded you be a citizen.
Xenophobia... you betchum. Any group that comes to town to break all the laws we have, and frequently with the permission of the Federal Government, is something to be very afraid of.

Pilpel: Switzerland is happy with LEGAL immigrants. They have recently cut back on the number of immigrants they'll allow because of a spike in crime caused by ILLEGALS. They have also began a media campaign to discourage illegal immigration.
Sorry but the facts don't support you.
(same goes for the rest of your b.s. answer)
=================================
Actually, the article points out the fact that the unchecked immigration of a culture that refuses to assimilate into the culture of it's new home has divided & destroyed countries throughout history. But whatever.
Isn't it ironic that labeling people that disagree with you as "racist" & "xenophobic" is, in itself, a scare tactic?
A charge of "illegal" is based on fact.
A charge of "racist" is based only on opinion.
