I really like this guy.
He's very athletic as well
I see him stare at me and then smile to himself sometimes but I act like I don't he's doing it.
I also think athletic guys like athletic girls.
for example one day, he ran 10 laps and I ran 8.
I would like to become just as athletic as him or better so I could impress him.

they do i suppose, but a lot of athletic guys have a tendency to think very highly of themselves so they might think that you're just a jocky rude guy. I don't think your doing athletics, however, is the problem. Maybe it's a problem with the way you talk to girls, or maybe you're not outgoing enough or too outgoing. if anything i dont think sports are an issue here, so I think it's probably your personality. Girls like confident yet humble guys for the most part. Whatever you do, don't be a "bad boy". Only really immature girls go for that.

It sounds like you are already impressing him. While more exercise is good for you, you are making the dating part way to difficult. Quit acting like you don't notice him noticing you, go talk to him and get on with it.

sometimes you think that guys like girls like them, but thats not always the case just be yourself, if you physically can not be as athletic as him, and he runs 10, you run 5 and watch him finish his run and make eye contact so he will notce you noticeing him :] it works
