I will have a major in Italian Studies from California State University Long Beach with "teaching Italian focus", and also another major in Spanish language with a personal knowledge of the European Union. I would like to acquire an entry level position as an interpreter. What do you think my chances will be to get the position? Please be able to source? Grazie Mille!!! P.S (I am a citizen of the EU)

I think that it will be pretty difficult, not because of your qualifications but because the EU must give preferece to European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals.

It would be easier if you were applying for a job or position that might be difficult to be occupied by a citizen as the ones that I mentioned above, but I am afraid that interpreter is not the case. It is not difficult to find people who speaks two, three or more languages and who have also the required school, college or university qualificatios for this job.

However, I think, that nothing is impossible, so I would recomend that you try and apply for the job.

Knowledge of Italian and Spanish languages will be an advantage in order to make it as an interpreter in EU.

in the UN, the six languages used are: Arabic, chinese language, English, French, Russian, & Spanish. in the ecu, 23 languages are in use: Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Irish, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and Swedish.
