Weimaraners are fast and powerful dogs, but are also suitable home animals given appropriate training & exercise. These dogs are not as sociable towards strangers as other hunting dogs such as Labradors and Golden Retrievers. Weimaraners are very protective of their family and can be very territorial. They can be aloof to strangers, and must be thoroughly socialized when young to prevent aggression. They are also highly intelligent, sensitive and problem-solving animals, which earned them an epithet "dog with a human brain". From adolescence, a Weimaraner requires extensive exercise in keeping with an energetic hunting dog breed and prized for their physical endurance and stamina. No walk is too far, and they will appreciate games and play in addition. An active owner is more likely to provide the vigorous exercising, games, or running that this breed absolutely requires. Weimaraners are high-strung and often wear out their owners, requiring appropriate training to learn how to calm them and to help them learn to control their behavior. Owners need patience and consistent, firm (yet kind) training, as this breed is particularly rambunctious during the first year and a half of its life. Like many breeds, untrained and unconfined young dogs often create their own fun when left alone, such as chewing house quarters and furniture. Thus, many that are abandoned have behavioural issues as a result of isolation and inferior exercise.
It should never be forgotten that the Weimaraner is a hunting dog and therefore has a strong, instinctive prey drive. Weimaraners will sometimes tolerate cats, as long as they are introduced to the cats as puppies, but many will chase and frequently kill almost any small animal that enters their garden or backyard. In rural areas, most Weimaraners will not hesitate to chase deer or sheep. However, with good training, these instincts can be curtailed to some degree. A properly trained Weimaraner is a wonderful companion that will never leave its master's side.

I have a weimaraner and there are a few things you need to know before you go and buy one. they are very energetic dogs they love to run and mine Hope is her name she is always hyper so it seems the only time she is calm is when she is sleeping. Weimaraner make great pets but they take a lot more time because they always want to be with you. they get cold easily so you have to watch them in the winter. Some say that they hate the snow but i have a hard time getting Hope in when it snows she loves it so much. Just know that if you get one they take a lot of work. they are stubborn dogs but they do learn. when you tell them something make sure that YOU are prepared to MAKE them do it because sometimes they will look at you like "Sorry were you talking to me?" They are a handful but great great dogs.

It depends--how much of a yard do you have?
They are great dogs, but they are also very hyper active dogs, especially in the first 3 years. They also are larger dogs, and if you've never had a dog before it may be tough to jump in.
First look at how much you can afford for the dog monthly (think of shots, food, vet bills) and then look at what you can provide (a yard, a dog park, walks every day, grooming).
Pure-bred dogs tend to have more health problems in general, and most of the time I advise adopting a rescue. A larger dog will obviously eat more, but sometimes smaller dogs have more restictive diets.
I would do a LOT of research before jumping into this.

They are very energetic. Need a lot of patience and consistency to train. If this fits your bill then go for it. If not, then choose a different breed. The Animal Planet has an awesome show called Breed All About It, also the AKC's web site has a lot of info on dog breeds. Then, there is always the pound, where I got my first dog who is an absolute joy!!!

Possibly... They're really smart, although I might go with something smaller for your first dog just so you know what you're getting into... A sheltie or border collie is just as smart, smarter even, but smaller... Also the price of a weimaraner is usually pretty high...

No. They are hyper and rathat hard to train. Toy dogs are also very hard to train. For your first dog, I would go with a golden retriever, lab, german shephard, or a beagle,
