That depends on what type of heater you have. Electric heat is cheaper than oil or gas in most parts of the US right now.

Depends on the heater. You might go a step further and buy an electric blanket.

I know an electric space heater beats a gas furnace pricewise. You can take it room to room and just heat where you are and not where you aren't. A fan can also help move the heat around more efficiently.

Nonvented gas heating appliances give off carbon monoxide and consume a rooms oxygen. Some new ones have a sensor for oxygen depletion which is a plus - if the sensor works, that is. You should have a working carbon monoxide alarm as well if you are using a combustion heating method.

One utility company website I found warns: Do not sleep in a room with an non-vented gas or kerosene heater.

Sounds like a thumbs down on the nonvented gas heater option.

Before the gas prices got so high, it was the gas fireplace. It can still be the gas fireplace if you just need to heat the one room the fireplace is in. But you can't let the rest of the house get too cold or the pipes will freeze in the basement or the crawlspace or the walls and then you will have a major mess and a major bill. So no house should be allowed to get too cold. Electric furnaces are usually still more expensive than the gas fireplace. Do not use a Kerosene heater or a propane heater indoors - ever!

The gas heater will cost less to heat your home. Most of the heat generated from your gas fireplace is going up the flue. If you just want your tv room a little warmer in the evening while watching tv you can use the fireplace to keep the room warmer.

I think it all depends on the size of the area and the efficiency level of the items. I was ready to say fireplace b ut then I saw the word Gas. I think that gas is cheaper right now...subject to change but check with the Gas and Elect Co.

Depends on the square footage you're heating, and how well insulated your house is.If you are just heating a smaller area with the gas fireplace, then go with that. For regulating several rooms I'd go with the heater, moderately set.
