A couple of points;
The brand name Winchester belongs to FN in Belgium, the maker of Brownings.
If you lads over the pond think these prices expensive, consider that in the UK, a new Remington Model 700SPS in most calibers, has a recommended price of £625-00 (around $1250-00), the 700 Mountain rifle has a recommended price of £1035-00 (around $2070-00).

Robert is unfortunatly correct on the price.

It's shame that a rifle with the fame of the model 70 can't be produced in a manner that everyone can afford.

It's true, the Model 70 returns in mid 2008. It will be built in Columbia, SC and will cost around $1100.00.

Uhhh... To my certain knowledge Winchester Repeating Arms, in 1980 sold all their weapons patents to The U.S. Repeating Arms Company in New Haven Connecticut. I just visited their web site and saw no reference to either a 2008 catalog or a new model 70 being manufactured. I would very much like to see this 2008 catalog. Could you please send me the information as to where I might procure one? My email address is:dickn2000a@yahoo.com Thanks!

That's wonderful. Winchester closing up production here in the US was a sad day. I'm in the shooting sports industry and the volume of calls I got concerning it the day it was announced demonstrates the historical importance of the company in the US.

Only if it is absolutely TRUE.* Thanks for referring me to the Outdoor article.* It looks to me like they are trying to trade an apple for an Orchard.* Out of reach for the majority of Hunters and Shooters in America.* Sad but true.*
