dogma.
I mean I can understand being faithful to your beliefs...but would you be faithful to the point where it causes you to essentially lose your child?
I can not grasp this..

There is no valid explanation except for dutiful recitation of the bible.

One who hates or disowns their own child because of some crap book is a very, very sick individual.

How about gender role? It is sterotypical for gays to act like the opposite gender. However, there are manly gays or femin lesbians. Parents, our frinds and society in general may get caught up in the ideal role for a particular gender. If the child is the oppositte gender...it is seen as abnormal. And the abnormal has never been really accepted.

Here is personal exmaple. I'm a staright female. However, I dont put on make - up and I don't care whether I am running around naked. My family sometimes sublty points this out....I know what they are getting at.
Except, homosexuals have it much tougher. They are abondoned. I don't understand that either. Excuse my spelling.

The reason some parents seem to hate their child for being gay is because they consider it a failure on their part for not succeeding in instilling their own personal values and morals in their child. However, as people are never quite that simple, the parents are often not aware or unable to deal with putting the blame on themselves so they shift it onto their child to protect their own psyche. It is easier for a parent to dislike or even hate their child for being different than acknowledge their own part (the imagined failure) in the child's life. This blame game is greatly compounded when religious is thrown into the mix, but that itself is another story.

Hate might be too strong of a word, but abandonment is a reality.

I've told this before, but I helped a friend through his death process over a period of a year or so. He was gay and was dying. His family turned their backs on him when he came out and would have nothing to do with him.

He died during the night and the next morning I had to call his family to inform them. His brother wept. His mother wanted to know what happened to his Nintendo game.

i think if a parent hates their child for being gay then thats just gay. maybe they are ashamed and are afraid of what their friends or who ever is going to react to the situation so their best defence is to say they hate their child and ignore the situation and end up loosing their child but realy and truly they are the ones looosing cause they should have given them the chance to you know explain them selves and just give them good advices such as protect yourself and others and just be careful play it smart i have gay friends so i understand. i think no one has the right to tell another how to wear his pants good luck and remember today is world aids day.

I have two sons, I couldn't hate them if they told me that they were gay. I have friends both male and female that have partners of the same gender, they are warm caring friends that I value. Perhaps an older generation of parents could be rather set in their views, or people with archaic religious beliefs.

If religion isn't the factor than look at the obvious.
The parents are upset that their child will not be giving them any grandchildren.
Also, sorry, but some people are really freaked out about someone hooking up with some else of the same sex.

You raise an interesting point. My folks accept me for the way I am without exception. For many of my gay brothers and lesbian sisters, their parents often experience a remarkable metamorphosis upon learning their child is gay or lesbian.
