Many French are Christian so I would guess they treat them fine. Actually approximately 90 to 95% of France is Christian.

About 3% of the population goes to church in France . You can say that christians are politely ignored unless they become obnoxious and start preaching in public and stuff like that.
Of and if they are public servants, teachers etc... they are not allowed, by law, to display of wear any visible religious signs while at work.

The French, the majority of whom whould say they are Christian and even Catholic, do not like to have other people's religious expressions pushed on them.

France is an agressively secular country, but this is unlikely to affect you, unless you plan on going to/teaching in school there. Religious symbols are not allowed in French schools - no Jewish skullcaps, Muslim veils or Christian crucifixes.
Also, just don't try to preach to anyone there. We Europeans don't take kindly to American evangelists. You'll just lose potential friends.
