My sister is looking at cheap cars and she found a Thunderbird V6 for $3,000 with 75,000 miles. That seems a little suspicious. So I'm wondering how reliable these things are.

They are definitely better than the 80"s Birds, Ford made a lot better cars in the 90"s

FYI, Ford Probes are notoriously unreliable, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the Thunderbird?

3k for a 95 Ford V6 is not even close to a deal, so I'm not sure why that would be suspicious. If you search craigslist they are mostly 2k and under.

That is a 12 year old car, factory reliability not a question now. Good price or not depending on the condition. Best do dome delving into maintenance history and vehicle history? Was it in a flood, odometer turned back or replaced and not documented?

My brother bought a 96' ford probe with 72k miles on it for about 3k and its held up good. The only thing that went wrong on his is that the slave cylinder for his clutch broke so we replaced that. Cheap fix (his is a manual).

If properly cared for, that motor is bulletproof. I owned several Ford's with that motor and never had a complaint.
