They aren't that different.

Both are white on white. Both are straight stacked teirs.

Do your shape with his swag design and accent with your crystals. You guys are much closer in tastes then you made it sound.

You need to compromise, it's a key part of what you have to do in any successful marriage. If you guys can't compromise on a wedding cake, you're in for some rocky times.

They aren't all that different either. His is more traditional, looks like he likes buttercream frosting, while yours is more modern with fondant. You might want to know that fondant look, while being very cool and chic, is also more expensive. Your future hubby may just be being practical. If it's a taste issue, then get tiers with the flavor he likes and tiers with the flavors you like.

It's a cake, when all is said and done. You're going to have some pictures taken where you're cutting it and feeding it to each other, your guests will eat it, and it will be all over and done with. Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. Good luck

for the official cake i prefer his, however, yours really is fun and very cute and it may work well with my idea.
this sounds a little wild perhaps, but hear me out and think about it before you say 'god that ozziegal is an idiot'.
ok, how many guests tables are there going to be?
i would suggest you see what the baker would charge to make you small versions of one of the cakes and put one in the center of each of your guests tables. it may be a bit expensive but it would give you a very unique centerpiece for every table, and you wouldn't need any other centerpieces so that would save you the cost of centerpieces, and it would give every table a beautiful dessert so you could factor the cost of the cakes into your dessert budget! i think you would find it wouldn't cost you much more than centerpieces and desserts would cost you and you could have the baker make the cake whatever kind of cake you wanted - lemon, chocolate, whatever. he could do even do two or three flavors if you wanted.
the point is you could both have your favourite cakes - just have one for your wedding cake and the other for your tables.
however you choose to compromise, i wish you the perfect wedding day and a wonderful marriage.

It's just a cake. It will get eaten. They don't look too terribly different. One is a little funkier. Try having two small cakes or asking the person who will make the cake what they think. Often they can come up with some creative ideas for cakes to help those who don't know how to compromise. My mom makes wedding cakes and she has done this for many couples.

They are quite similar actually... I do like your choice though. It has a more modern flair. You can compromise by going together to taste the cakes and select a final style. Perhaps if he absolutely loves one filling or flavor, you can say "OK... if you choose the flavor and filling, can I choose the style of the outside?" My husband was also very interested in the cake process, but he was more concerned with the taste rather than to appearance. Maybe striking this balance with him will work for you too!

If not, you could always have a groom's cake as well. It can be any flavor or style that suits him... perhaps he will be fine with your choice for the main cake if he can have the total freedom of the groom's cake. :)

let me tell you this. my fiance and I (and sister, MIL and SIL) spent 3 hours at the cake shop. he and I argued over what style of cake to get for a long time. you see, he has done next to zero wedding planning, so come the cake (one of the last things we did) I just found things that I liked. well he threw a fit. he wanted a traditional wedding cake with frilly lace and crap like that. i want a square basically plain cake with minimal decoration.

we compromised after a while. it's a square cake, two tiers, chocolate icing will some frilly icing decorations, green ribbon around the bottoms of the layers. it's probably the ugliest most ridiculous cake i've even seen, but it's compromise. haha.

for you, try doing this. you can either get the shape of your or the decor and same for him. combine them. I would recommend the decor of yours and the shape of his just because mad hatter cakes can be expensive.

Get a smaller version of the one that your fiance likes as well as yours. Have a neutral friend flip a coin to decide which one will be considered the actual wedding cake and which one will be considered the groom's cake.

Just make sure that neither of you will be pissed if your cake isn't the one at the main table!

Or you can dismiss both cakes and choose something else completely different!

Pick the cake that best matches the style of the wedding dress/bridesmaid dresses/floral arrangements..a fancy formal cake will look silly if the wedding is not a big fancy formal/traditional kind.....and quite frankly it's not a house, once it's eaten it's gone, reguardless of what style.

They're not really all that different- I am sure you can find something in the middle that appeals to you both- keep looking!

Funny, never heard of a groom with an opinion about cake, outside of flavor!

they are very similar, yours is just more modern. I like the idea given about him picking the flavor and you picking the style. Perhaps you could look for something else that you both like, or do two cakes. When it comes down to it the cake is not going to make or break the day, its about your love for eachother..... not cake.

There is only one obvious answer here - you need two cakes. I would do the second cake, the one with the fondant in a different color than white and call it a groom's cake.
