If some people are stupid enough to bring their pets in the car and left them inside, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same thing if they have children (and I've seen and heard such thing happen). The fact that in your case that they left the dog for more than 2 hour is just make things only worse.

That being said... if it was a dog inside alone... well may be I'd just left it. But if it was a kid... well it is no doubt that I will call the authority and wait for them to come. I'm sure there's a possibility that the owner won't feel any guilt but... eh. What are you gonna do. There is no cure for stupidity.

No, I wouldn't steal it. What I would do is take down the plate number and location of the vehicle, and contact mall security. Believe it or not, malls have policies in place for this kind of thing. Most will call the police, and the police will come and want to talk to you to verify the length of time and other details. If they warrant it necessary, (which is more likely in the summer than the winter) they will break into the car and take the dog to the pound. I've worked in a small town mall for 10 years, and have seen them do this several times; once I called Mall Security myself. The people get a ticket, and contact info to retrieve their dog on the windshield. Usually they can jimmy the lock to get it out, but once I saw them break a window (it was August, the dog was a Husky, which DON'T tolerate heat well, and it had been over an hour).

No I definitely wouldn't. If the window was open a little bit, that's good. At least it can breathe. Some owner loves their dog very much, and won't want it stolen. However, you should call a local animal shelter if the owner doesn't arrive soon. But, DO NOT steal it.

Two hours does seem like a long time to leave a dog in a car. That's no reason to steal someone's dog though. If you're that concerned call someone to get the dog help, like everyone is suggesting.

I agree that leaving a dog in a car in mild weather isn't going to hurt it. Did the dog look distressed?

I leave my pooch in the car during mild weather, but not for two hours (I'd be afraid he'd eat my seats!). I usually make sure he has toys and a blanket to snuggle in. It's an adventure for him and he loves it. It's not abusive. As long as it's not too cold or too hot for them, what's the difference if they are sitting at home waiting for you or sitting in your car waiting for you? They have more fun in the car, getting out to see more of the world.

i understand extra beneficial than i opt to understand with regard to the Montreal SPCA, and that they've the only humane regulation enforcement officers for the area. they have an somewhat intense kill cost on the SPCA. they are going nevertheless a reorganization, and function too few officers, too few foster residences, and too little kennel area. So, in the event that they %. up a dogs, it is extra probable to be euthanized than accompanied out. i could weigh heavily in the previous reporting the dogs. in spite of if it is purely too warm, (over 26.6 c) and the dogs seems under pressure and no air flow, by using all skill, call. notwithstanding, except it is an uncoated toy breed ( alongside with a Chihuahua) a dogs can wisely face up to fairly fairly some chilly, in the take care of of a motor vehicle indoors. ( In my artwork for a international animal welfare enterprise, i've got had various dealings with SPCA Montreal)

Absolutely not.

Just because they leave the dog in the car doesn't mean they don't care about it or its ok for you to steal it.

If it was a human baby left in a car, would that give you the right to kidnap it? No. But you should definately call animal control/ your local spca if the weather is too cold or hot for it to be in a car.

Let's see ....

Breaking and entering + theft = JAIL!!!!!!

And I'm sure the police can come up with other charges too!

If you were worried about the dog call the police or animal control. They have the authority to break in the car and remove the dog if necessary ... not you.

you should probably just call the animal control centre and let them take care of it cuz it's really none of your buisness to bust open a car door and take a loved family pet, maybe they really had no choice, or maybe the owners came out to check the dog out for a while you don't know their situation... and how would u feel if you came out to your car and your dog was gone? and you would feel pretty guilty ...

I dont think you should get it out or else you'll be considered a criminal. But I did some quick research and if you leave your pet in the car in the cold the car gets so cold that i may freeze to death. And if its to hot then it will die of it being so hot. If I were you i would call a pet rescure or a local Humane sociaty and see what they think

I wouldn't steal one, and neither should you (although it is tempting...)

What I would do (and might suggest you do...) is report the owner to Animal Control. I don't care what temp it is outside, it is very dangerous to leave a dog in a car unattended. He could choke, if a car bumps that car he could be injured, etc.

I find it especially appalling that someone actually dragged their dog along for a car ride to just leave it in there for over two hours.
