It is better and life and leaves you feeling more confident and self satisfied if you know that you gave it your all rather than just take the secure route. What good is a ball game if you don't follow through? The same goes for life, aim higher, not just a few feet in front of you.

don't just go a little bit, go for it all. Hitting it out of the ball park means a homerun. So I gyess it would mean don't just make out go all the way?

To me, it's a figurative way of saying, "Don't settle for the safe and sure way, but try for the best."

to me it means to always attempt to reach the highest level you can. To give your all to everything you try to do. To not be lazy or try to do something haphazardly.
