Is it possible to be shipped to basic right after MEPS?

NO, not any more.

The military/MEPS used to have what is called the direct ship program where you could go to MEPS and ship to boot camp the same day.

They no longer due that due to initial security screening rsults and drug testing results. Too many people were getting sent home from boot camp because of non-disclosure of crimes or other past history and or popped positive on a drug test.

You CAN ship in about 3-4 weeks depending on the service you are interested in joining and sometime even quicker than that depending on how squared away your package is that goes to MEPS.

IF you have ALL of the stuff you will need to give to a recruiter the first time you talk to them, like your drivers license or ID, original social security card and certified birth certificate, official transcripts showing high school graduation or GED plus lots of name, address and phone number info for people you have worked with, lived with and or known so you can quickly fill out your security documents you may be able to ship out pretty quickly.

Also, if you are not too picky about job choices that helps too. If you just want to enlist, see the world and get a great life experience you will choose jobs that are open now and you are qualified for. If you want a specific job you may have to wait a little until a seat becomes available for both boot camp and the school afterwards.

It is winter time right now so you may have a good chance of shipping as quickly as physically possible given all the other things I just told you.

Go talk to the recruiters for the branch or branches you are interested in. Tell them what you want to do and why and they will help you from there.

Lots of people turn to the military because they have no other place to go. We have enlisted people that were good people but had fallen on hard times and were actually living in their car at the time of enlistment. The military is not a bad place at all and they will give you a place to call home.

Good luck.

You will be presented with a small list of time frames that you would like to ship. There is no benefit to waiting longer unless you have to (like you are still in high school). Until you have completed both basic and AIT you are not eligible for education benefits for example.

The amount of time between MEPS and BCT is entirely dependent upon you. They'll try to get you to go sooner. I had to argue to get a month and a half to get ready to go. If you really want to go quickly make sure you ask about a bonus they currently offer (I believe they offered it a short time ago) for soldiers who leave within a short amount of time.

Y E S!! As soon as you are finished with MEPS,
and certified physically capable, you can be sent to a basic training unit if there is a beginning cycle ready to go! http://www.goarmy.com
