I have found a couple....mainly in the same family. We keep in constant touch now.
Only thing about the site is that it suddenly hiked up it's price of £7.00 a year to £9.95 for just 6 mths. It's disgusting!!

I have found only 3 or 4 fairly close cousins (i.e. ones whose parents or grandparents actually met my parents or grandparents) through genesreunited, but I've contacted loads of people through it who are connected to my family way, way back.
I totally disagree with the person who said it's not very popular. My experience suggests that it is immensely popular, in the UK, at least. If your family are from elsewhere, you might be better off with rootsweb, which is free (and I've met a couple of cousins through that, as well).
But, because it's entirely user-submitted, it's true, you can't guarantee you'll find something on your family, the way you can on an extensive records-based site like ancestry or familysearch. It's a contact site, not a research resource.
In my experience, the more you put in, the more you get out. If you've done so little research, you only know 3 or 4 surnames for your family, there's a smaller probability of your contacting a relative, than if you've researched back to the 1700s.

Have lost count of my relatives found through Genes Reunited. All are distant cousins. Have met one so far, and plans to meet others. The best bit is the family info you can exchange.

I had some FANTASTIC input (from here) this week, and used google, came up with a recent obit of a cousin to me, with the name of a surviving daughter. Found the name and phone number and made the call last night. She was surprised, as well as very pleasant. I have me some new cousins now for Christmas (and thrilled).
I used to use simple phone listings to find persons, then asked for referrals to others interested (ladies won't always still have the birth name). Not everyone is listed in 'sharing' research... some don't even OWN a computer
"Sharing" research is a bonus.. if you are the only one doing it, you still can find the records.

An uncle and two first cousins that I already know about.
Quite a lot more third, fourth and even fifth and sixth cousins who in most cases have been more useful with information than my closer family!
The one person I really want to find, my mum's half-brother from her dad's first marriage, is so far proving elusive, but I live in hope. The site has its uses for sure.

Genes reunited can only be used when other relatives in your family are wired to it. it is clearly not that popular and there is a chance not many of your relatives use it, this makes it harder to find your complete family tree. And as far as I know, I haven't found anything on it yet.

Lots from various branches of my (and my husband's) tree. Some of them I'm in regular touch with, and we've been very helpful to each other's research, splitting the work and the cost.
Others have not been so nice, wanting to know all about my research but not offering any info on their own half arsed efforts. (I'm talking to you, 3rd cousin Craig!)
