I just got a puppy and the woman that I got her from told me she's nine weeks old and a girl. But her genitals seem a bit "puffy". Although she doesn't have testicals, do they drop at this point? Or am I going to eventually find out later on that Lucy, is a Lou?

Edit:
For those of you with nasty answers... why answer at all?
I have never had a puppy before, and the woman that gave her to me was someone who didn't want the pup anymore. She had her from someone else. I took her in because I wanted to give my children and myself something to love. It doesn't matter what sex it is, I was just curious.
Seems she is a girl from those of you willing to be nice enough to help.
For those of you nasty enough to make comments about how I shouldn't even have a dog- say that to the puppy who could have been at a pound right now. Who is happy as a clam, and has made a huge difference in my kids and my life.

There is a PENIS on the underside of male puppies. If it is a girl, there will be a vulva below the rectum...not on the underside. Testicles should be descended on a male at this age, but might be very small.

*the person might not have LIED, but they may not have know either!!! You would be SHOCKED at the number of people that cannot tell the sex of puppies!!!

It's a girl. Females when are puppies have a "puffy" section around the genitals. I know this because I have a female Chihuahua. If it were a male it would have a penis and testicles and those are obviously exposed, it's not a hidden treasure for males.

I completely understand what you mean my puppy is four months old now and shes a little girl but people often mistake her for a boy! Her "bits" are very puffy and it was more noticeable when she was younger but you definately know when you have a boy because the penis is long and comes along the belly (and they try to hump your leg lol) but girls only have a swollen round sort of area. Hope this helps :)

The easiest way is to check for a penis. At 9 weeks, the gender should be easily apparent, even without dropped testicles.

I agree with the first answer, why would they lie.

In a male dog, the genitals are near to the belly button, and the female, more towards the hind. You should be able to tell.

If you are unsure what gender you puppy is, look at its belly. If it's smooth in the middle--it's a girl, if there is a < shaped protuberance that points toward the puppy's head--it's a boy.

Females have a vagina near the back end - males do have a penis, even if small at this age and two testicles.

umm at 9 weeks u should beable to tell! does it have a wee wee? lol thats how you can tell, and you WILL notice if it has one! its not hard to tell if its male or female at 9 weeks. if you reallyarent sure, or dont know what to look for, then go to the vet!! im pretty sure its a gurl if the lady said so, if theres no wee wee, then yes lol, it is a girl!!! good luck.

um, there is an obvious difference between male and female pups. Unlike cats, it is immediately apparent from birth, and easy to see. Males have a penis. It is far up on their belly, and there is no mistaking it.

I'm sure she is a girl, why would the woman who gave her to you lie?
