I keep seeing Christians talking about how people want them to stop saying Merry Christmas. I have never in my life heard anyone say that. Go ahead and say Merry Christmas! Just don't be surprised or insulted if someone says "Happy Yule" or "Happy Kwanza" back. What's the big deal?

I always said "Happy Holidays" when I was a waitress. But I did it just to cover everything. I can somewhat understand a business trying to make everyone happy. That's how you make money. I just dont' see what the big deal is.
And who ever said children can't pray in school needs to read the law. You are wrong.

I agree. Just say whatever you celebrate, and be done with it.

Now, the Christians trying to remove Santa from the celebration of Christmas is the real problem.

Some "politically correct" people out there have a problem with it. I don't really see why, though. I'm not Christian, but I don't mind being told "Merry Christmas," and people who do get offended are way too oversensitive.

What I think is stupid is that Santa Claus can't say,"ho, ho, ho," any more because it's "offensive" to some women (namely, prostitutes--people that nobody cares about anyway). It's not even meant in that way! What the hell is he supposed to say? These politicians need to quit ruining the holiday season.

The big deal is that some politicians think they're being "politically correct." Instead, they come off sounding like oversensitive assholes. If they don't like "merry christmas" or "ho, ho, ho," they should shut themselves away for the holidays so their little politically correct toes won't get stepped on.

I don't see anything wrong with saying "Merry Christmas" to people. And sometimes I would say "Happy Hanukkah" back to them just to remind them that not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas. What I really don't get is when Christians get mad when people say "Happy Holidays". I've seen people yell back "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!" like the person just slapped them across the face by saying Happy Holidays instead.

My cousin worked for an advertising company and they designed flyers for other companies. It was a company rule that the words Christmas, Haunnakah (I butchered that spelling, sorry) or any other religious holiday name could not be used on an advertisement. Likewise, there could be no nativity scenes or similar images. Happy Holidays was about the only acceptable greeting.

I am a public school teacher and the student leadership had to change the a program from 12 days of Christmas Spirit to 12 days of Holiday Spirit.

You are right, people in general do have the the problem, so you have to ask the question, who is behind Christmas being not celebrated?

merry used to mean get drunk. get drunk on christmas. i think its funny but the meaning of the word has changed much like the word gay and fags. so merry christmas is just fine but the die hard people will say happy christmas because they think merry still means get drunk in america. (i think england still uses merry as drink and maybe fags for cigarettes, but im not sure . . .)

)o(

edit : even though im not christian, i say merry christmas to them because i want them to have a good christmas. i dunno what the big deal is worth either. religious tolerance is important, but maybe people dont understand that.

"Last year Walmart and Target ordered there employees not to say Merry Christmas."

False statement. Never happened outside the mind of Bill O'Reilly and other morons.

O'Reilly made it all up as a ratings gimmick.

I'm an atheist. I hang around with atheists. We say Merry Christmas. I've never met anyone offended by that saying.

Why are Christians so eager to enforce "political correctness" on this issue? Why can't they just accept that people say what they say?
