One of my cats went missing years ago. We think someone stole her. We put her out as usual at night & she didnt return home.

Then we read somewhere cats were going missing (after ours went missing) & being stolen & killed for fur. this hapened in the UK in the 80's. It devasted us as we think that is what happened.

she was a year old & friendly.

we have another cat now but because there is always cats going missing our cat is a house cat & goes outside on a harness. I take him round the garden.

Its terrible that England has got to the stage where you cant even leave your cat out at night.

Yep, I've had cats and dogs that have ventured out on their own. I've found that the best way to find them is to take some treats or a favorite toy with you while you go looking for them, squeak the toy or shake the treats in their box while calling the animal's name.

Put up flyers with a picture or good description of your pet on them. While you're putting them up be sure to talk to the folks that you see outside and ask if they've seen your pet. Ask them to keep an eye out for him/her...especially kids, they always seem to know about the "strays" hanging around in a neighborhood. Ask at local animal groomer's if you can put some flyers up, Vet's offices are also good too because if someone found your pet and plans on keeping it they'll most likely take it to the groomer's or Vet's soon after finding it.

Call your local pounds and shelters and ask if your pet has shown up there. Ask them for tips on finding your pet too. If you live in an area that doesn't have a pound or shelter call your local police, they usually handle it then.

I hope you find your pet.

I havent personally, but two weeks ago, a female black and tan cat, appeared at my place of work. She was still there after the weekend. I was feeding her and giving her some milk. She seemed abit frightened but I am very good with animals and adore them, she came to me and was eating the food like there was no tomorrow. I stroked her, she felt very thin. I called the RSPCA and they sent someone out within half an hour. The cat had a collar on so the inspector managed to pick her up and I dialled the number that was on her collar. We left a message on their answer phone to say we had found a cat and I left my mobile number for them. I was wandering wether the poor thing had been dumped or something. To my surprise, I got a phone call that evening from a lovely man and sounded really suprised that this cat could be his. Her name was "Dolly" and she was 10years of age. She had been missing for five weeks. They had just given up hope. They had moved house and the cat went missing the third week they had moved here. I met the lovely guy with my daughter at the back of my work place, as the cat was hiding in a little den. He couldnt believe it, he was nearly in tears. His wife and kids were over the moon. The cat also had a sister at home that was missing her. He wanted to give me something to thank me. I told him he already had. I was so happy that this little cat was reunited with its family that really loved it and that give me a whole load of satisfaction. I was so happy that this cat was finally going home to its family. I just wanted to share this little storey with you as it had a lovely happy ending. I know not everyone finds their lost animal and for them I really feel sad, but I hope that this little storey makes some of you smile.

My male Siamese cat "escaped" one night, when the wind blew the back door open. I couldn't find him for days, til I took a blanket that he'd slept and rolled around on..(getting his hair and scent all over it), and hung it out on a fence. The wind blew his scent all over the neighborhood, and within one day, he came home! That seemed to "do the trick" for a cat that was lost. However, I'm not sure if it would work for dogs. Probably, for a dog, the best thing, besides checking w/the humane society and all of your neighbors, would be to print up "flyers" with a picture on them and distribute them around. Also, for either of these cases, you can put an ad in the newspaper. Hope these ideas help, if you're having that problem.....Good luck..........

I live in the country, and one of my cats went missing three years ago. Didn't bother with flyers or posters, as there are so few people around here. I went around to all the neighbours, and asked them to keep their eyes open, and check sheds/garages, etc. I trudged around all the nearby fields, phoned surrounding vets and animal shelters within a 20 mile distance. Finally, I put a notice in the local weekly newspaper.
My baby never turned up.

I have a cat that has a vehicle fettish and can not resist the urge to get into peoples cars if they leave thier doors open.
One time he was missing for 1 month and 10 days and he was finally located 40 miles away. He, like all of my animals (mammals) are microchipped and wear chip id's. We got a call about where he was when he jumped into a persons car at an outlet mall. They called the # on the tag who gave them our number. They called me and gave him a ride back home.

1 of my cats (Stella) went missing a couple of years ago. We searched the shed, walked up & down the street whistling her, asked all the neighbours. Then we made posters, with 'photos, and put them up on lamposts, shop windows, and through every door on 3 streets. We rang the R.S.P.C.A. and several vets, in case she had been taken there. I put an advert in the local paper, offering a reward for her safe return.

The little sod turned up, wet and bedraggled, crying at the window, 4 days later.

She's never wandered off since.

Our dog got lost and someone picked him up & took him to the police station where he slipped his collar and ran off.

We searched and searched, put up posters, he was in the local paper, we drove over to that area and called and walked everywhere trying to find him.

After 2 weeks we were ready to give up, but something told my Mum to go and have another look. She drove into a woodland carpark and he was there... he came home and spent the rest of his years with us.

The only reminder was that he hated uniformed policemen and would bark which was a bit embarassing!!!

no, but then again I don't do the animal thing,,,I'm not saying I don't like them, and I would never ever like to see them fight or get hurt by any means, however, I'm just not a pet person,,,and I literally hate the girls in the media now having the dog act as an accessory to there outfit/purse "whatever" come on dog's aren't decorations there dogs,,I just think there treating them unfairly, If i was a dog I wouldn't want to sit in paris hiltons purse all damn day,,,,
