Last night my 15-month old son had a slight fever of 99 degrees. This morning, it was 102.5, but it came down to a normal 98.4 after two hours with a full dose of infants Tylenol and removing his shirt. Now he's back to about 99.5 after a three hour nap. He's eating fine, playing with his toys and crawling/walking fine, in good spirits, wetting diapers normally, and in good spirits otherwise. Could this just be the result of teething? He's not sick, swollen, rashy, or having loose stools/vomiting...

He probably has a virus of some sort. If he had 102.5 this morning, he is probably sick and should take it easy until he is better. Tylenol does bring the fever down.
Just watch him carefully and give him a lot of liquids and keep him inside.

Erratic Fever

My daughter had a high fever (at 15 months) and wasn't as active one day. I think the fever was 102. We took her to the after hours clinic at suggestion of our doctor and they couldn't find anything wrong. They checked for bladder infections, blood work, etc. We were there for hours and sent home with them saying they didn't know but watch her.

Next day fever was lower but she was still a little down for her. She is a wild and active child.

Next day fever was still near 100 but she was crying and wouldn't stop. My doctor said since there was no really high fever and the first doctor visit had no results she must be fighting off a virus or teething and continue monitoring it ( it was also a holiday weekend so my dr. office was closed, they didn't think it was important enough to go to the er). They told me to come in the next morning if she was still feverish.

Anyway she cried for another hour and I called my parents who lived down the street from both a ped nurse and an ER doctor. They both told me I know her better than the doctor and to take her to the ER anyway. I did. They admitted her and started blood work. Before the results were in they noticed a rash on her belly which had not been there until that morning. Sure enough the blood results finally showed Roseola. She needed an IV and was able to leave after 10 hours. It is highly contagious and they said it often hits her age range. The rash shows up days later. Just keep this in mind. It shocked us to say the least.

my daughter used to get lots of fevers without any other symptoms when sh was that age. I actually brought her to an
infectious disease doc cause she got them so often. He said it is not uncommon for a toddler to have 10 febrile(fever) illnesses a year.
if he get worse or the fever lasts longer then 3 days then bring him to the pedi...
The best indicator of how sick your child is by the way he is acting, not the degree of temp. Some kids act fine with a 102 fever some dont.. if he is acting ok , then i wouldnt worry too much.

It could be teething, or he could just be fighting off a virus of some sort. My daughter would occasionally come down with a fever for a couple of days for no apparent reason. I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point.
