Someone who's pregnant or has a heart condition shouldn't be fighting with the police or resisting arrest.

Police departments have clearly outlined policies on tasing. I have seen some very violent people, who were clearly out of their minds (drunk or mad), and they would have hurt anyone including themselves.

The issue is if not a taser, then with what and how will an officer make an arrest, protect the public trust, without risking greater harm. I mean I've seen tasing videos on you tube, but even videos with just a police officer handcuffing a person seems to draw such outrage. How?

Would you rather the police wrestle with the struggling, combative, violent pregnant woman? Personally I would prefer nothing--I'd prefer the pregnant woman or man with a heart condition comply with the orders of a police officer initially. Then later aruge their case in court, because this is really the only way to maintain their safety.

The problem is that police officers often have discretion in making an arrest or not. This is intended to allow an officer the ability to use his or her judgement to get criminals off the streets. The backlash happens when an officer arrests a 15 y/o black girl for curfew violation by spraying her with pepper spray, or the officer tasers a guy at a traffic stop for being a jerk, or the officer electrocutes a woman to death (200 have been executed by tasers so far by police due to the killing of heart muscle by electricity). So when an officer uses discretion it should be to get a criminal not to teach a otherwise good person a lesson.

the first use of force in the "use of force continuum" is officer presence, the second is verbal command, the third is hands on, fourth is a non lethal weapon, and the last is deadly force. it sounds to me like the officer used steps 1 through 3 which were ineffective, so he went to step number 4 (non lethal weapon) like a tazer, baton, or pepper spray. the tazer was effective and worked. so it sounds like the woman had ample opportunity to comply to the officer but she chose to do something else. yep, the officer must have been really over zealous huh? or is that just another news line to get good ratings by making the police look bad?

You draw the line although some cops are assholes and don't care. I was having an asthma attack and my BF wanted to go in the ambulance with me the police didn't want him to because he had been drinking, He refused to let me go my self and was tazered by a cop 4 times! He is epileptic so the "shock" caused him to seize, not knowing he was seizing the cop kept shooting him with the tazer, as I am trying to tell them to stop (that was almost impossible having an asthma attack) He was in turn taken to the hospital because the almost killed him by tazing him. The only thing that happened was the cop was fired.. bug deal.

If you're talking about the pregnant women who got taser the other day, she deserve it , she shouldn't resist, they were just asking questions, then she try to make a run for it, and got taser, shame on her. If you are pregnant or have any medical problem, you should always tell the officer about it.

YOU draw the line. Do what you are told and you have nothing to worry about.

HA! Interesting you ask that question. Here is a pregnant woman being tasered: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3935302

Here is one getting stunned: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=3933372

And here is what happens when cops who score low in the IQ portion of the test are handed a taser: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=3634737&page=1

Of note, cops can't be hired if they are too intelligent: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_56314.html
