Why no lessons? You can be self taught but it is SO much easier with a teacher! Teachers help with motivation, encouragement and avoiding bad habits! There are some GREAT teachers out there! Once you find one that you click with it will be so encouraging! Websites can not see you play and hence correct habits

The only way to get good is to physically play with someone better than you, you could try books and the internet but the best you could hope to accomplish is the ability to copy other players using tabs
If you ever want to obtain your own identity on your instrument then you have to empower yourself, learn to play songs by ear, and know WHY not just how,

Your best choice is to buy a beginner's manual having chords, music theory, and simple notated songs as exercises. Hal Leonard and Mel Bay put out great manuals for the beginner and intermediate player.
