I watched this on TV once. Ok this dog has been eating his Poop because he is eating to fast and the food isn't fully digested and then when it comes out, there are still nutrients in it that the dog can smell and that's what's causing the dog to eat its poop. If your dog is inside the house and poops in there, even though you might not notice it, there is so much bacteria where your dog pooped. Just clean up and watch for times where you have stomach aches and that stuff. For the dog, feed him gradually, give him small amounts of food every day like half a handful and then wait a couple minutes after he eats it to give him more. Good Luck.

Are you absolutely sure it IS coming out the tail end???
I say this because since I had my puppy she has been sick on the carpet twice. Just "one" offs. On both occasions I did happen to see her being sick. I immediately clean it up and have to say, if I had been out, then come how and found the sick I would have assumed it was poo!
If your puppy is only 8 weeks you might need to actually split the total daily amount fed into four smaller amounts. Maybe he's eating then being sick? Then eating it again?
It might be WHAT you are feeding him as well. Cheap food can go straight through them and they are then not getting the nutrients they need.

When a dog is fed low-quality and/or inappropriate dog food, he feels compelled to eat more of it in an attempt to satisfy his body's craving for nutrients. As a result, the dog is ingesting excess food, and a large proportion of the food goes through his digestive system undigested. The resulting stools smell and look fairly close to the food that the dog previously consumed, so the dog tries to consume the 'food' again. This is not just a vulgar habit; it is a cry for health. The dog needs a better diet that will enable him to absorb the nutrients his body needs.
Try changing..........gradually, to a different food, and giving him tinned pineapple chunks (dont ask me why, but it usually works!)

1. Pick up after your dog.
2. Get ProZyme, a natural food supplement, to stop this unwanted behavior. Do this immediately - any behavior that's not stopped will continue. Don't let this become a lifelong habit.
This is, unfortunately, somewhat normal puppy behavior. The Prozyme will help and it's a good supplement to add to their diet in any case. Good luck!

This is a bit too much information but my fully grown dog will eat anything. He used to eat my other dogs poo (before she passed away) he eats my cat's poo but he will not touch his own!!! He will eat his own sick : ( Not sure why they do it but it has done him no harm and when we went to the vet about it they said it's fine.

I presume you are house-training him.
He knows that he shouldn't mess in the house, so when he does, he is eating his mess, because he thinks that it's the solution.
He doesn't understand that he needs to go outside yet.

A lot of dogs eat their own ****. You should pick its waste everyday. Also, dogs have a tendency do to this when they are bored. Does your dog receive enough activity.
