I suffer from severe test anxiety. I know the answers, but on the tests I do below average. I help people and they pass and I don’t. The other day, I had to answer a chemistry question. This question asked for the amount of electrons and on which side they were on a chemical equation. I knew the answer and I even imagined the equation in my head, because it was an example from our book. I saw the electrons on the left side and even wrote them down, BUT I was completely 100% sure that I was looking at the right side. I wrote the right side, got it wrong, did below average,…

I am tired of this. I need help. It’s not fair that I do below average and get confuse with left side and right side and everything else when I know the material. I get so anxious on science and math tests that I fail on them. There is still time for my grade to improve tremendously, but I need help.

Help please!

Your answer lies within your own question. You know the material, you help others, you simply place far too much importance on the test itself, then upon doing poorly at one, you heap more importance, hence stress, on the next. You are awarding the "test" this power over you, you can recind it. Perhaps your friends could write a test for you to take, complete with clock ticking and silence in the room; then the real one should seem like just another drill. Of course, you already know that is the way to approach it.

Talk to your professors about your test anxiety. Before taking a test I do relaxation breathing and focus on one question at a time. Don't think of the big picture of the test focus on the one question. Maybe they can give you extra time or a verbal test. But you need to learn relaxation techniques to reduce your anxiety

you may need to talk to a psychologist to see if they will recommend a Individual Education Plan for you which would include getting special consideration at testing time. You may need to take tests in a special testing center, you may need more time, you may need to take them as an oral rather than written test etc. This is a common learning disability and can be dealt with easily.

what are you eating?
what daily exercise are you getting(just for the sake of exercise)
what daily relaxation techniques are you practicing for 20 mintues each time?

learn a relaxation technique that is simple and easy like self hypnosis, so that hours prior to the test you bring yourself into relaxation earlier in the day and then even during the test itself.

You need to see an educational and learning psychologist...

Its a big problem that only you or the psychologist can answer...

But my advice is...

Relax and during the test, just think that you are just practicing or reviewing so you'll not get nervous or something...
Dots aLl... God bLEss...

this may seem a little bit childish, but it's always okay to put say, a black dot or something on ONE of your hands, so that you can tell.

it may seem like its the other side, but from what it seems like, i think you should just go with your first instincts.
