Silent Mac, broken Mac!
System bombed, screen went black.
Books suggested things; I tried 'em all:
Shift key, desktop file, clean reinstall.
Now my deadline is tight,
This Mac's been silent all night.

Violent night, horrible night!
Lost my cool, filled with spite,
Threw my Mac through the balcony door
Watched it fall from the 20th floor,
Now I'm sleeping in peace;
Thank God I had it on lease.

It basically depends on your budget and what you want to do with it. If you're just looking to browse the web, watch a few videos, and read some eBooks then I'd get an iPad. If you want to play some actual games, often write essays for school, and more extensive use then I would get a laptop. Tablets like the iPad are not computer replacements, yet. They're very limited in what they can do, and have no physical keyboard which will make it difficult to type for long periods of time. If you wanted a sort of combo between a laptop and a tablet, I'd HIGHLY recommend the ASUS Prime which will come out in a few days. It has the processing power of a computer with its Quad Core processor (twice as many an and iPad2 or 4 times as an iPad1), it runs the newest version of Android which will make things a bit easier if you're a student because it lets you attach files to emails, browse files like on a computer, and upload files like a computer (I have many times uploaded a last minute essay or homework assignment to my school's online "dropbox" using my Android phone which I could not do with my iPhone 4S) and here comes the laptop combo, it has an optional keyboard dock that will fold up and make it look like a laptop. The keyboard dock will also add about 6 hours of battery life making it about 18 hours total. And because this is a tablet, it'll be very very light and thin. And, you could remove the keyboard if you ever just wanted to use the tablet itself. I'd take a look at it if you wanted a compromise.

There are numerous many stories out there that don't have movies. Books can explore ideas and concepts and never have to get worried about a special results budget.
