Well, my friend and I had plans tonight to go to the mall, out to eat, and then have a sleepover. My throat felt a little tickly earlier, but now feels fine, I don't really feel sick, but my temperature is slightly elevated at about 99 degrees. My right throat gland is also VERY SLIGHTLY swollen. We are not planning on sharing food, drink, or even beds so do you think it would still be fine for us to go ahead with our plans??

Thanks
=D

My friend knows about this, and doesn't really care, I just don't want to get her sick.

Don't cancel your plans, you're both going to be exposed to many more germs and viruses at the mall than you are to eachother.

Have a great time.

I would think that since your friends know about it, and your throat is feeling better, you should be safe to go out. If it helps I've given you a few self-care. Have fun.

Sore Throat Self-care

Until your sore throat has run its course, try these measures to ease your discomfort:

Double your fluid intake. Fluids help keep mucus thin and easy to clear.

Gargle with warm salt water. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a full glass of warm water, gargle, and then spit the water out. This will soothe your throat and clear it of mucus.

Use honey and lemon. Stir honey and lemon to taste into a glass of very hot water, allowing it to cool to room temperature before you or your children sip it. The honey coats and soothes your throat, and the lemon helps cut mucus. This time-tested recipe may relieve most of your pain — if only temporarily.

Suck on a throat lozenge or hard candy. This isn't necessarily soothing in itself, but it does stimulate saliva production, which bathes and cleanses your throat.

Humidify the air. Adding moisture to the air prevents your mucous membranes from drying out. This can reduce irritation and make it easier to sleep. Be sure to change the water in a room humidifier daily and clean the unit at least once every three days to help prevent the growth of harmful molds and bacteria.

Avoid smoke and other air pollutants. Smoke irritates a sore throat. At least while you're sick, stop smoking and avoid all fumes from household cleaners and paint. And don't expose children to secondhand smoke.

I think you'll be alright to go ahead with your plans. A temp of 99 degrees is not cause for concern, because its normal for our body temperature to flucuate. Your throat gland isn't swollen enough to cause concern either. These are symptoms you should watch out for: a temp above 100 degrees, and your glands becoming more swollen and painful. These are signs of an infection and you should get ahold of a doctor then.

If you still feel OK, why not. Probably tomorrow, the throat will be more sore and you will not feel as well and then will need to stay home and take care of it but why miss out on the fun right now when you don't feel ill? As long as you don't share any drinks so that your friend could possibly catch this, go for it.

I would take some non-drowsy cold/flu medicine as a preventative measure and continue with my plans. If the symptoms were to get worse, at that point I would consider canceling or changing my plans.

Wait until about 3 or 4 and see how you feel. You'll know by then if you are getting sick. Or go out and runa few errands by yourself, if that tires you out you'll know. Go ahead and call her now, and let her know it is a possibility. You'll just have to play it by ear.

I would just take some extra vitamin C and go ahead anyway. Warn your friend you might be getting sick, so you guys don't share anything you shouldn't.
