The NT does not nullify the OT law of God.
Sin still has consequences.
The commandments identify sin...
it is wrong to murder, steal, lie, etc.
Sin is a lack of love toward God and other people.
We fulfill the requirements of the law with our love.

Addition:
Being freed from sin does not mean that you are free to sin. It means you have come into agreement with God regarding sin and it consequences. We are to be holy and refrain from sin because of those consequences and our love for God and others. We are not justified by our works... what we do or do not do, but we are still held accountable for them.

Because sin still exists.
Jesus did not free us from the OT in the way people try to teach it. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will be any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Mathew 5:17,18
Jesus himself told people to stop sinning
John 5:14, John 8:11,
Jesus freed us from the curse of sin and to take away the sins of mankind
"The next day John saw Jesus coming toward h im and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.'" John 1:29

Jesus said that a man who looks at a woman a lusts in his heart, has already commited sin. So Jesus in creating the New Testament didn't abolish sin. He came to perfect the law. The perfection of the law is the New testament. Sin still exists.

Actually, Jesus frees us from the Law and we live by grace. We no longer have to go through rituals and sacrifices to receive forgiveness of our sins. As an others will no doubt tell you, we still sin and need to be aware of what makes a sin and how do we get away from that sin. Jesus' gift is not a blank ticket to abound in sin, but rather a get out of jail free card and like the game you have to have it and use it or you will one day bow your knee knowing that you had the chance to play your card and failed.

In the OT, the death of an animal was required for forgivness of sin. Those sacrifices were made by faith, believing that one day, a sacrifice would be made to cover all sins. Jesus was this sacrifice, the Messiah. He freed us from the system of continually sacrificing for our sins. By his sacrificial death on the cross, he became the only sacrifice we need. By having faith that he is our payment for the penalty of sin, we are spared from the penalty for sin, which is death.
Why preach sin? Those who have not grown up in church have no way of knowing that they are sinners. By preaching what sin is, lost sinners are brought to repentance for the wrongs they have done. How could those that are unsaved be brought to Christ if they don't hear the Word? And how will they hear the Word unless someone preaches it to them.

Jesus did not free us from the OT, and Jesus was very frequently preaching against sin, frequently admonishing that sinners, scandalmongers and other incorrigible types, upon their death would be hurled down into the ever scorching flames of the Jehennah.

Think just how much He was telling people that they should repent.

1. The Law is the schoolmaster that shows me I am sinful.
2. We are told to turn away from sin. How can we know what to do, if we do not know what sin is?
3. There are the consequences.
4. You cannot openly sin, never suffer for it much, and then really think you are getting into heaven.
5. Why respect the sacrifice of Jesus or repent, if I did nothing wrong?

We are still all born with sin and have the sin nature. Jesus had to die for our sins also. He said He came to fulfil the law of the OT not do away with them, the OT is still an important part of our walk with Him. There is so much information that will help us draw closer to God.

During Christ's 3 years of teaching, He spoke more about hell than He spoke of heaven. Why? Because He wanted to warn people to avoid it and told them that He was the only Way they could!

God bless!

Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the DRAGON; and the DRAGON fought and his angels,
