Jesus was a Jew. He looked like a Jew. The paintings you see were originally inspired by European painters (usually under the commission of The Church) and the artists didn't want to disappoint those who commissioned them.
Its also natural to "paint what you know". They had European background so they painted European paintings.
Those original paintings were then used as the standard to depict Christ.

That may be a thought... possibly. I'd hate to think that but based on European history it may seem as if they (Catholic Church) tried to make the image of Jesus after their own race and likeness. European settlers migrated to the United States with this same ideology of the appearance of Jesus; of course, other races were nearly considered inferior or barbaric in those days as well. So it might had been considered an insult to imagine Jesus as another race, such as middle eastern.
I think we all know that Jesus was not the, oh so commonly portrayed, fair skinned, blue-eyed man the Catholics brought to the scene. The people of that region where Israel is located gives us a clue of exactly what Jesus looked like.
God bless.

Race is only important in so much as Jesus was proven to be of the line of King David (a requirement if he were to be the Messiah) and that geneology most definitely was Jewish. Also remember that Jesus grew up as a carpenter, which meant he spent most of his life working outside in the son. So, even if he was "white", he would have appeared to be quite dark skinned.

Jews and other Semitic peoples of the Middle East are considered Caucasian. Is there a problem with worshiping a person of that race?

He was hebrew. The "white" thing was an assumption that was made during the dark ages and early paintings and continued from there as people tend not to think in a global manner.
Mostly this is not a "belief" but it is an assumption that all people are the same as those that you know.

No, Jesus was a Jewish person and had their coloring. True Christians are not put off by what race Jesus was while here on earth or his color. We love all races because God created everyone.

Since his mother was a Jewish girl from Israel, I've always thought that Jesus would have looked like an Israeli sabra (native born). Light olive colored skin, brown eyes and curly black hair.
Most people assume that He looked just like they do no matter what their race is - and maybe that's the way it should be.

I just reported you for asking a racist question.
But, white Christian DO KNOW that Jesus was not a white man.
If you have a problem with white people, that is YOUR problem. You're just trying to start a racist argument here. But, PLENTY of people are going to report you, and your racist question will get DELETED.
I suggest that if you want to post in the R&S section, don't be racist. Racists usually don't last long here, because we love people of all races here.

Ever heard of artistic expression?
Artists from different parts of the world have depicted Jesus about every way imaginable. This says more about how people throughout the ages have related to Him on their own personal level than about His heritage.
