Do Moslems really give Christian names to their Animals?

I found this identical reply twice today on Answers today..Re the Sudan Incident..Can any Moslem confirm..1. unlike christians muslims do not consider pets(animals) same as children. In general they don't name their pets with muslim name, mostly they name their pets with christian names like, Tony, Tom etc.
2. From Islamic point of view animals are inferion being compare to human being.
3. Muslims have extremely high regard for all prophets and specifically Prophet Mohammed.

I find your comment Hypocritical...You say that Moslems don't use Arabic Moslem names for Pets but Christian (Biblical) names.

You said Moslems have extremely high respect for Prophets..then why is it OK to disrespect the Prophet Jesus Christ by giving names of his followers ( Christian names) to animals.
Why would they not show the same respect to Christians as they expect from them.

Point 1. I didn't know Tony or Tom were Biblical names.

Point 2. My cat is named Ayah. It's a name that means "distinguished" but it's also a word for "verse" refering to the Quran.

Point 3. Don't really know how you drew your conclusions of what 1.6 billion Muslims think from two answers.

And there is a Hadith regarding Muezza, the Prophet's cat, whom once fell asleep in the sleeve of his garment, so at the time of prayer, rather than waking and moving the cat, he cut off his sleeve to let her sleep.

I see Vim, this is a case of confusion among the Muslims rather than an accusation from yourself. As you see from a couple other answers I mentioned in my own, some Muslims are confused or disagree when it comes to particular topics.

Animals are not an inferior creature, but rather a creature of God that we are commanded to respect and care for. There are two Hadith regarding animals that support my point. First is of a prostitute who passed by a thirsty dog sitting next to a well. She removed her shoe, gathered water in it, and then let him drink from her shoe. For that deed, God forgave her from all her past sins. The second Hadith is about a lady who had kept cats confined and never fed them. Because they died from her neglect, she will spend her eternity in hell.

I don't know why this fella said Muslims name their pets after Christian names, because not only is it rude and disrespectful, it's untrue. Granted someone somewhere along the line may have named their pet a "Christian" name, but not out of disrespect. Most likely out of a preference for that name. Say for example a Muslim who grew up in NYC or who really enjoyed the Sopranos. ;-P

There are no Moslem's names or Christian names. They are arabic names and english names. Let pets be pets, unless you're married to them then they become your spouse/s. We pick certain names for pets just to distinguised animal and human beings, so to evade any confusion. Let say, if I ask you to call Tom to come this place; you might get confused, which Tom, I'm talking about. Is it Tom the animal or Tom the man.

are you out of your mind? i do not know about christianity as it is not my religion. here are some hadeeths: "Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself." in islam it is said that you have to quickly kill the animal so that it does not suffer. islam gives the BEST treatment to animals. "Whoever shoots at a living creature for sport is cursed." in islam you are only allowed to kill animal for food. killing it for sport and or for other silly reason is h@ram and about the dog. well dog's are dangerous animals. their saliva's are dangerous too (has many diseases). the angels are afraid of their face so it is said that they will not enter a house if there is a dog in it... but that does not mean that islam says that dog should not be treated with mercy. as for cat. cats are not dangerous to man kind. it is said that Prophet Muhammad was searching for a shirt. he saw that a kitten/cat was sleeping on his shirt. instead of disturbing the cat he cut the sleeve of the shirt which the kitten/cat was laying and went to the mosque to pray. when he came back the kitten/cat was awake. the cat bowed down in respect :) and love. EDIT: actually i had. i had parrots, pigeons, parrots, rabbits, hen, chicks, cats. that's it i think. and FYI animals don't like to be held alot. they want some freedom. i've seen many people squashing the animals during hugs and they just want to scratch their faces lol. sure leaving them completely is bad but do grab and suffocate the animals like most people do.

Muslims never have dogs. Some families have cats but they never give them human names. I wrote in two replies that how will Christians feel if we name dogs as Jesus. But I also said out of respect for Pophet Jesus , we will never call a dog with name Jesus.

It your people who are always looking for some reason to bash Muslims. I wonder when you guys will learn the ethics and how to treat others better. Mainly you all hate Muslims
because they won't accept to worship a man (Jesus). That is Paganism to us.

We the Muslims Never Insult any of the Holy Prophet including Jesus Christ peace be on him. If at all if any Muslim Do Insult Jesus Christ or any other Holy Prophet, he or she shall go out of their faith of Islam. Thsat is the reason why Muslims cannot tolerate any one insulting their holy prophet or any other prophets peace be on all of them.

Is this reason not enough as a justification to respect our Holy Prophet, whose folllowers are second to you Christians in the present world. Show me any incident where any Muslim has ever Insulted Jesus Christ or Moses Peace be on them.

Recently you have noticed that Muslims of Holland had protested over the Cartoons defaming our Holy Prophet peace be on him, which incurred financial loss to the country and loss of lives towards Muslims. Is this not serve you as a reminder?

Ask Muslims they know a lot about Jesus Christ peace on him and we believe that his birth was a miracle, we believe in his other miracles perfortmed by him and it is mentioned in our Holy Book Quran. A complete chapter is dedicated to Virgin Mother Mary peace be on her, which is not there even in Bible.

While the Jews donot believe in Jesus as a prophet, do not respect mother Mary and as per your belief Jesus was crucified by them and still you respect them and they are your friends and partners. What did Muslims do to you christians, we saved you and you took shelter in Muslim Lands when Jews massacred christians. When Jews were massacred by christain Hitler they took shelter in Muslim Lands and there are still millions of them there.

Please Tell me honestly why do you Christians hate Muslims inspite of we respecting Jesus and Mary peace be on them and never insult them. We recite their names and their episodes in our daily prayers too. We believe Jesus peace be on him coming again before the end of this world.

Normally Muslims do not have dogs as pets, few have cats though, but not like Christians who mostly love to have pets.

Owing to their Highest Respect towards holy Prophets peace be on all of them, how can they name any pet on the name of any Holy Prophet while they believe in all of them?

The Lady English teacher in Sudan in Question is a matured person of 54 years age and she should not have done that mistake.

Well even if she did, the Government Authortities as well as the Religious authorities of Sudan would have used their wisdom and should have deported that lady without making it a big issue, which has raised so much mayhem in the Non Muslim world. Already Sudan is in big trouble right now.

Any God Fearing Religious person should respect every religion and should not insult either their gods or prophets. That is what Islam teaches us.
