Without wishing to appear super-critical, scientology is a baseless multitude of lies, designed and calculated to extract maximum cash, and on a regular basis, from all its proponents; and all this in return for progress up levels within the secretive sect.

So many celebs are Scientologists because Scientology caters specifically to them. They have an enormous celebrity center right in Hollywood.

I can see why Hollywood people like it.
Courses on better communications, studying, shaking peer pressure, getting past roadblocks, shaking drugs. Seems perfect for the hollywood crowd.

And as far as I can see, the long list of ones doing it strike me as being happy open focused people. About the only thing anyone seems to hold against them is that they are happy open and scientologists. Compare that to the rest of the hollywood crowd that is always in the news. Id much rather have the kinds of articles that Cruise, Travolta, Seinfield, K. Alley have than the ones about Gibson, Spears, Jackson.

And of course, for them its also cheaper than most religions.
Much better a flat rate that any student can afford than a church asking for "10% of your income, before taxes". That would be pretty extreme for them. :)

But seriously, it doesnt take much reading of one of their books or something to see why some people would like it. I guess that for some people its better to pray to an outside force for guidance and focus. But other people would rather grasp their own life and fix it up by taking self-help courses like scientology.

Probably because they have lived a pretend life all their life. So it isn't hard to get sucked into a cult like that. It seems to me that alot of them are out there in la la land. Look at Tom Cruise. If that isn't kinda scary!

Because the cult woos celebrities, panders to their need for "special attention", gets the "dirt" on them, and then blackmails them so they cannot "leave". The cult will either suck them dry for all the money they can get out of them, or use them for "public relations" purposes to promote the cult.

Because celebrities are too cool to be members of normal religions. We can just consider ourselves lucky that they aren't forming their own personal cults.

Yeah, why are they? I think it's a bunch of junk. I've read about it. Of course...that's only my opinion. If someone wants to believe in it..that's their perogative.
