I'd rather feed our scientists and engineers to come up with world class electric and fuel cell cars. And alternative power sources to feed the vehicles.

As a fringe benefit, we could sell the technology to others.

Feeding the oil sheiks is idiotic. Feeding farmers to grow fuel for cars may be an interim step, but only that.

Engineer-Poets idea is also good.

JELLO - We need to save ANWAR for when we're desperate. Don't worry, we'll get there, and we'll drill it.

It takes almost 1 BTU of fossil fuel to make 1 BTU of ethanol, so the ethanol advocates intend to feed BOTH the fat oil sheiks and our farmers, with the subsidies of other taxpayers.

If you want to stop feeding oil sheiks and their pet terrorists, burn less oil.  That's all there is to it.  If we wanted to do something, we could start by taxing petroleum up to a minimum of $5/gallon and stop putting SS and FICA taxes on the first $10,000 people earn.  That would encourage work and thrift, not waste.
