I would only trust the answer from someone who has "been there and done that". The only one that has died and returned without dying again is Jesus Christ and He has left us with His word the bible. A thorough investigation of the bible might give you great comfort as well as some answers. Try Luke 16:19-31 for starters. Good Luck in your search.

I read the other day in bible that when we die our sins die with us that is what the attoning sacrifice of Jesus did . bearing all our sins .. on another not spiritualy .. I feel that there is a place for reincarnation ... Also there are many places in the heavens .. when we die we begin a new journey .. but I would be a fool to say I actually know for definate the total answer to your question .. Its like a taboo a secret mystery that we will all discover at the time of departure ... How can our brain handle all the information of the soul ? How would we be able to live in full knowledge ? would we just all commit suicide ? Or would that ground our spirits to this world and make us have to do the cycle again -hence reencarnation? Do our souls get recycled back in to pure light? OR Do we float about in heaven with our earthly identities? may be when our generation of souls for earth have all passed on .. our true soul identies come back to light and we all laugh about it in heaven .. may be they are all different earths and we go were we please so seeking pleasure by having a body .. May be when our loved ones die they are not that far away from us . I have questions my self .. and only have bits of knowledge just like you !

At death, the soul ceases to exist. The body plus the life-force equals a soul. If the life-force is removed, there is no soul. Death is therefore like a long dreamless sleep. That is until Jesus returns.

According to the Bible, Jesus has TWO scheduled returns to Earth. In the first, the righteous dead are resurrected, the righteous living are translated; they all will be taken with Jesus to heaven for 1000 years (the unrighteous living are struck dead). So the earth is desolate. At the end of that time, everybody returns to Earth, the unrighteous dead are resurrected and totally annihilated by fire in a short time (not punished throughout eternity).

That's what I find in the Bible. Other religions have different concepts about death.

When you die, that's it! Nothing. At the time of death most people are comatose as the organs shut down one by one. Your senses start to fail with smell, taste, touch and sight going first and hearing last. It is estimated that hearing continues for about four minutes after clinical death so it would be possible to still hear what was going on after death. However as lack of oxygen to the brain would cause brain damage giving the feeling of insanity after about two minutes you wouldn't understand what was being said anyway. The concept of life after death was invented to reassure ourselves that we can still exist after death and thus not be afraid of it. It is also a tool to recruit people into various religions with promises that after death there will be some sort of heaven or paradise awaiting us. As we are only animals like any other, but of higher intelligence, it is hard to imagine that every living thing that preceded us would, somehow, be crammed into heaven. Anyway, who would want to go there? It'll be full of catholics!

Here's the most honest (because it contains absolutely none of man's traditions) and Bible-based answer you're ever going to find.

        Well, in the first place, hell is not currently a real place. Also, we have neither a spirit nor a soul -- in the spiritual sense. We *are* a living soul -- we don't *have* one (Gen. 2:7; 1Cor. 15:45). The Bible formula for a living soul:

Dust of the Ground + Breath of Life = A Living Soul

        We also don't *have* the spiritual concept of a "spirit." The word "rûach" translated in the Bible into the English word "spirit" (Eccl. 12:7) is referring to the Breath of Life given to us by God.

H7307 (רוּח) rûach (roo'-akh)
From H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, that is, a sensible (or even violent) exhalation;

H7306 (רוּח) rûach (roo'-akh)
A primitive root; properly to blow, that is, breathe;

        Without the Breath, we are just plain dead -- back to the Dust of the Ground (Gen. 3:19; Psalms 104:29). The Bible formula for death:

A Living Soul - Breath of Life = Dust of the Ground

        Jesus does promise us an after-life, though. For more Bible information on this topic, see the following study guides.

I have had several experiences with the spirit of loved ones passed in my life which proves to me that the soul does survive death. It seems some people are more open and receptive to this than others.

We do not truly know all the answers, but you can have faith that the soul lives on after the body dies.

Be well.

The Bible makes it clear that God did not originally intend for humans to die. He created the first human pair Adam and Eve, placed them in an earthly paradise called Eden, and instructed them to have children and extend their Paradise home earth wide. They would die only if they disobeyed his instructions. Gene 1:28, 2:15-17
Lacking appreciation for God's kindness, Adam and Eve did disobeyes and were made to pay the prescribed penalty. "You will return to the ground," God told Adam, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return." (Genesis 3:19) Before his creation Adam did not exist; he was dust. And for his disobedience, or sin Adam was sentenced to return to dust, to a state of nonexistence. Death is thus an absence of life. The Bible draws the contrast: "The wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life." (Romans 6:23) Showing that death is a state of total unconsciousness, the Bible says: "For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all." (Ecc. 9:5) When a person dies, the Bible explains: "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish." Psalms 146:3,4.
However, since only Adam and Eve disobeyed that command in Eden, why do we all die? It is because all of us were born after Adam's disobedience, and so we all inherited sin and death from him. As the Bible explains: "Through one man (Adam) sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men." Romans 5:15; Job 14:4
Yet you may ask: 'Don't humans have an immortal soul that survives death?' Many have taught this, even saying that death is a doorway to another life. But that idea does not come from the Bible. Rather, God's word teaches that you are a soul, that your soul is really you, with all your physical and mental qualities.(Gene. 2:7; Jer 2:34; Prov. 2:10) Also, the Bible says: "The soul that is sinning--it itself will die." (Eze. 18:4) Nowhere does the Bible teach that man has an immortal soul that survives the death of the body.
After sin and death entered the world, God revealed that it was his purpose that the dead be restrored to life by means of a resurrection. Thus the Bible explains: "Abraham..reconed that God was able to raise his son Isaac up even from the dead." (Heb. 11:17 - 19) Abraham's confidence was not misplaced, for the Bible says to the Almighty: "He is a God, not of the dead, but of the living, for they are all living to him." Luke 20: 37,38.
Yes, the Almighty God has not only the power but also the desire to resurrect persons whom he chooses. Jesus Christ himself said: "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5:28,29: Acts 24:15 . Later Jesus' friend Lazarus died, When Jesus arrived at his home, Lazarus had been dead for four days. Although deeply grieved, his sister Martha spoke of the resurrection hope saying: "I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day." But Jesus went to the tomb, and resurrect Lazarus from the dead. What was Lazarus' condition during those four days he was dead? Lazarus did not say anything about being in a heaven of bliss or a hell of torment, which surely he sould have done if he had been there. No, Lazarus was completely unconscious in death and would have remained so until "the resurrection on the last day" if Jesus had not then restored him to life.
IThis miracle gives us proof that with God's power, the dead really can live again,.Jesus showed on a small scale what will take place on earth under the Kingdom of God.

Where do we go when we die???
That is a good question and I actually found a very convincing answer to it when I searched for it...I used to believe that when everyone died they would either go to heaven or hell
But I thought...huh??...what would I do in heaven...is there delicious food there???
will there be any hot guys there??
Am I gonna be able to paint and travel ??
And in hell ...what??? burn forever...why ?if god.afterall..is all love and happiness why would he want any of his creation go through such suffering...???

I was told to read Ecclesiastes 9:5
what I believe about it now is...that well when we die we wait in our tomb like in a really deep sleep until the ressurection we get when armaggedon comes...Then we will awaken and live forever...in a beautiful paradise...It's sounds too good to be true but you know what I believe in it...there's gotta be more to life than just live love and die...
So take care!!!

God explains all of this in The Holy Bible, Our Soul will go before judgement and whether or not we believe that Jesus Christ went to the cross for our sins, we have the gift of eternal life if we accept it, Jesus went to the cross for our sins, we are all sinners, God is without sin and Holy and is seperated from us because of our sins, When we go to Jesus, knowing and confessing That He went to the cross for our sins, WE can ask forgiveness, and repent turn away from them, and be saved, Those that are not saved will be left behind, Jesus will say I never knew you, and when The Lord returns, Sin will be thrown into the firery Pit, It is a reality and will happen, all of the prophesies are coming true, and We know not the hour or the day but Jesus told us to be prepared.

If that question could easily be answered then there wouldn't be any religious competition. Einstein said that the soul has to go somewhere because the soul is energy and energy can not die. I belive in reincarnation as well as "heaven" and "hell". But just because I believe something doesn't make it true. I think that humanity will not answer this question until we are able to admit we don't know anything.
