I would really like to think it's a peaceful and non-violent religion but after seeing this example along with so many others, not to mention a lot of silence on the part of other Muslims, I really can't bring myself to say that it is a religion of peace and non-violence. I'm sorry about this, but that's how I feel and what I see.

Law is not always specific. In fact we have similar law in the UK in that it is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of religious faith and that would not always mean Christianity or any other faith! What people seem to be missing here is that the Muslim faith still has a great deal of state law attached to it, whereas Christianity lost its legal force several hundred years ago. As the teacher in charge of the class, she had responsibility to see that the class was conducted in a lawful manner. She failed to do that, and I do not believe for one moment that an allegedly educated woman in a country like Sudan did not know what she was doing. I think this was a deliberate act on her part to 'get back' at a colleague with whom she was having an argument. The one who reported her to the authorities! Anyone who has spent any time at all in a country like Sudan or Iran would know the law because it is all around you all the time. Do not believe what you read in the papers, the Sudan government will be just as irritated by this as anyone. There is more behind this story and people here are being whipped into a frenzy over racial issues.

Not necessarily:
It may be the end of Islam as a united religion (if it ever was: it and Christianity share that ideal, not the practice)

Far from all Muslims have the same problem, or attitude, as those in the Sudan.

Dr Imad Hassan:
"I feel insulted as a Muslim by the government of Sudan, not by Mrs Gibbons... Describing the lovely children's toy with the name of Muhammad is a compliment, it is not an insult. "

Full article below.

That does leave people, claiming to be within orthodox Islam, who do show these attitudes of hatred, intolerance and a propensity to violent outrage.
More Moslems may have to reflect, and act, if they don't want to be identified with those, standing as they are under the same "umbrella", the name of Islam.

> Is this the end of Islam being a peaceful religion?

That end came before the beginning. Just look at their peaceful history.

> Does it show it's full colours of hate and intolerence ?

No, it does not show their "full" colors. It does show that they are full of self pity and low self esteem, as well as being full of hate and intolerance.

Islam did not persecute this woman. PEOPLE did. There's a difference.

Islam is peaceable and will be until the end of time, insha'Allah. Allah knows best.

Islam, from what I've read in my Qur'an (several times, mind you) is about beauty and peace and patience and sacrifice. I'm still learning and growing in my deen, alhamdullah.

As salaamu 'alaikym.

"If Islam religions..."
Insha'Allah, there is only one Islam!

It is very annoying that persons post such dribble without the slightest knowledge of the subject matter they are attempting to address.
They are not even able to write intelligently in their own language.
They are bleating sheep being led by the media.

The teacher in the Sudan broke the law of Sudan, the country where this event took place.
Sudan is not the USofA, and one should not judge Sudan or any other non-Western country by the standards of the West just as those countries should not judge the West by their standards.
When one is in another county, one must abide by the laws of that country just as visitors and citizens of this nation must abide by the laws of this nation.
Why is this so difficult for so many persons to comprehend?

Does the intolernace and stupidity of those who can not understand the situation in the Sudan clealry demonstarte the bigorty, hatred and inhumanity of Western civilization and the countries which so proudly proclaim to be part of the same or, at least, under the infulence of the same?

Hasbuk'Allah!

Ma'a salaam.

Peaceful? Since when? I must have missed that moment. Those people are more frightening than any horror movie Hollywood could produce. Crying for the beheading of an innocent young woman over naming a child's toy? Complete insanity... but for some reason, they seem to always seek out and wallow in that sort of nonsensical ilk.

Islam was never a tolerant religion. And the Taliban is an example of what happens when you let religion run your life or your government. Religion is cool, but I ain't gonna let it run my life.

Stop looking to what followers do, many Muslims unfortunatualy are not following ISlam correctly, If you want to learn about Islam look at the teachings of it

A religion should not be judged based on what its misguided followers do but based on its true teachings
