I have narrow hips when compared to my shoulders, but I've noticed the widest part of a woman's hips are actually the upper thighs. So what can you do to build up muscle and make them look wider?

Also, what exercises can you do to make your butt stick out more in the back. Mine's a bit flat.

It'd be nice if someone who's knowledgeable on working out were to answer...

My hips are actually normal width but look narrow due to my wide shoulders. I have the upside down triangle frame, which is irritating for me.

Jessica K: I won't work them so hard that they look ripped. I don't like that look.

By the way, I'm asking how to widen the thigh muscle and butt, not widen the hips. Please, I already know the hip bones can't be widened.

Also, please stop saying "have children". I biologically cannot have children.

Hip width is controlled by the pelvis, I might be wrong but I think you're stuck with what you have. Edit I suspect you are petite Edit. Now you have corrected your question, check out a speed skaters thighs.

not sure if there are exercises to make your hips wider. Hip width is a result of how your bones are structured. You can do exercises to build muscles but then i think you'd look a little weird being all jacked in your hips and upper thighs. (looks very manly)

Funny you ask this, I feel like my hip/thigh/butt area is getting a little too big and i wanna make it smaller hahaha.

Currently two hours daily. An hour in the morning before I go to work and an hour at night before I go to bed(It's currently just jogging-I'm starting to work scootering into that also). I'd like to start agility, flyball and dock-diving with her(along with the scootering). Maybe also try Treibball with her. She's fast and loves water. I also play fetch with her and let her play in her kiddie pool for an hour daily too. She's a mixed breed(A Labrador mixed with some sort of herding breed). ADD: Yep, that's what it is. It's just an alternative to Bikejoring or similar activities where a dog pulls you. It provides mental stimulation which is great and also gives my dog the chance to run(which is really good since our current place we are living in doesn't have a fenced yard and it's hard for me to run long distances).

You are a minority and very lucky. Most of us need exercises for the opposite......You will probably widen as you age and if you have children. In the mean time, enjoy wearing the cute fashions most of us could not pull up over our hips :)

There are all kinds of military exercises that can help with that. I would recomend flutter kicks and some cardio running. Squats are also a good way to condition yourself. Since being in the military for 7 years and focusing on fitness, those are good ways to condition that part of your body.

There are muscles on the hips that you can exercise for a more curvier look and squats and lunges help a lot too and leg lifts.
