HAHAHA You have yourself in a dilemma
If you purchased a PC with Vista you are NOT going to be able to downgrade to XP no matter what others may tell you.
I am a Windows Vista Tester and it is impossible -- period.
You cannot format the hard drive and you cannot attempt to override Vista with XP. Even if you try and think you are successful, you are going to run into major hardware compatibility issues.
Microsoft has recognized this issue and is trying to develop a way to downgrade, but they really do want people to stick with Vista.
If your PC is in a corporate environment then yes, Microsoft will allow you to downgrade back to XP but not if you are a home user.

The Make & Model would really help.
Vista is probably on a recovery partition on your hard drive. RTFM. Look in the User Manual for more info. Make sure you don't blow the partition away before you create your Vista Recovery disks.
Then, you must use the manufacturer's XP Recovery Disks ($). A store=bought (or pirated) XP will mess up your PC!
