Etiquette says you only have to buy for the child that your child knows. The reason why shes being invited in the first place. And the parents expect this also. ;}
Even without etiquette involved my answer would have been to just buy for the child you know. Its ok! Having a joint party probably just makes it easier on the parents and saves time on the invites that are for ppl who know both children.
I hope she has fun!!!! =}
*I looked this up once when I was invited to a dual baby shower... the 2 women were only friends they just thought it would be FUN! ;}

No, you can by for the one your know
I have friends with twins, they learned, that if they are having a join party, Just put the name of the twin they know, so people do not feel obligate to buy two gifts
If they are around the same age, you can buy a game they both can play

Did the invitation was for BOTH kids then yes you are obligated to buy for both. (I don't recommend the parents doing an invite like this ever.) Just put five dollars in a card and give to the one that your child doesn't know and let your child pick out something for the one she does know. OR better yet...just don't attend. IF this party is for both kids then it'd be rude to NOT give both kids something.
Final note: This is a lesson we all can learn from on how "not" to send out invites.

I am assuming that it is a joint birthday party at a place like Chuck E. Cheese's and that they are doing it together in part to save money?
In that case, there is no obligation for your daughter to get a gift for the child she doesn't know. I assume that that child's own friends are coming and will be bringing gifts, so it's not like he/she will be left out.
Hope your daughter has fun!

You're not obligated to buy the sibling a gift, but it would be nice of you to get something anyway. A small, token gift is fine.

surely you do no longer could desire to purchase 2 presents yet have self assurance me, you will experience awkward in case you take place to a bathtub without present. I as quickly as gay some close buddies an somewhat advantageous wedding ceremony present (aircraft tickets and one week motel in Amsterdam). They have been a advantageous couple, 2 adult men, with whom i'm close. that they had a bathtub and that i purely gave a card, questioning my present became into sufficient. i became into so uncomfortable whilst they opened my card without point out of my present that I have been given very emotional and had to excuse myself to the rest room. So my expensive, convey some thing even in spite of if it is low priced, like stinky creams or bathtub beads or some thing lovable. do no longer come empty exceeded because you would be able to experience embarrassed.
