When you were 10 you took a life for no purpose. Your reaction was normal and good. You learned from the experience. I believe that you will be a better hunter for it.
Watch Ted Nugent if you can. Ted understands the spirit of the wild and their purpose.
Each time I harvest game I thank them for providing food for my family. This may come from my growing up on a farm. My dad had us kids each raise a calf which grew up to become food on our table. It was a great lesson to love and nurture a beast that puts food on the table.
I welcome you to the hunting family. We need more like you.

The first thing to do is to go to a range and learn to shoot well enough that you can make clean kills. If you get out there and just wound another animal, it will only make your aversion to killing worse. Once you can shoot well enough that you can hit what you are aiming at every time, you will be ready to give hunting another try. Go with someone who knows what they are doing and who knows about you previous experience with hunting. You do not need to go with someone who will make fun of you. It will not help you at all. Maybe a member of your family who is a hunter would be a good chioce. You may have to have your hunting partner dress out the animal for you the first time but soon you will be able to do it all yourself. On the other hand, if you give it a try and find that it just doesn't appeal to you, that's okay, too. Hunting is not for everyone. It is supposed to be enjoyable and if you are someone for whom hunting is not enjoyable, then find something else to do in the woods like camping or hiking.

Hey man I did the same thing with my crossman air rifle when i was around 8 or 9 yrs old. I felt so bad about it I swore I would never shoot another living thing again. Well that didn't last long at all, at 12 i was hunting with friends and family every season after. Like another said, only shoot what you intend on eating.

eat what you shoot and only shoot to eat. That is always advice from many people. I for one cannot eat what I shoot I am a varmint hunter. I shoot small animals with very explosive high velocity rifles.
You just have to relize that you are providing for your family and you need to have respect for the game you are taking. Do your best to become accurate with your firearm so you can make quick clean kills.

Yes you can, because you are no longer 10 years old, and feel differently about getting back to Hunting.*
