Ancient cultures had so many symbols, for language, for gods and religion and superstition. Many of those symbols carry over today and their meanings are still very relevant.
There is also a feeling aspect.

First you strip down the info of the dream to its most basic parts.
If someone says "I had a dream i was making out with a gross guy on my parents bed"
Parents bed- being secretive within your family. As a kid this was like the holy no-no. You certainly wouldn't want your fam to know.
Repulsive guy-something you dont want to face. Its a big ugly something that youre hiding. I'm sure you wouldn't show your friends this guy.
Making out- Your really involved. When you make out w/ someone, you let reality slip away. The world disappears. Your in deep and no one is around.
Now this example is purely hypothetical, but it makes sense and its straight forward. There is no direct symbolism, no weird animals or anything out of the ordinary.

For things that are odd, like mythological creatures, blood where it shouldn't be, parts of your body falling off, you need a reference. A good book, or on the Internet. There are lots of good websites that have info on interpretation. Dreammoods.com has a symbol dictionary, its got LOADS of info. But lots of times symbols are easily interpreted w/ common sense. Losing teeth for example, means a loss of power. In nature, if youre an animal you use teeth for protection, for survival and to eat kill and feed your family. No teeth means trouble. So when you look at symbols in that regard, you can start to see what they might mean in a dream.
I do use "feelings" a lot in interpretation. That is something I cant describe how to do. Sometimes, even the most innocent seeming dream will make me want to express caution in the situation, even if the direct meaning of the dream isnt "bad". This is because of the overall feeling I get. And like wise, sometimes a dream where everything is terrible, people lose sight of the goodness within them. Family trying to aid you, things like that are overshadowed by fear during the dream. There is a lot of feeling to be done before a solid conclusion can be made.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

i feel like anyone can do it, it just takes a good understanding of the human mind....if you look at the symbols and situations in each dream...and consider what you know about the person who had the dream, you can begin to connect the dots and figure out what could have caused the dream....its always best to start with yourself and people you know, if you are trying to read a dream of someone you don't know, then you have to broaden the feild a little and sometimes give a few dif. scenerios that you feel could be causing them, then the more you do it, the easier it becomes to decipher....its easy really, just gots to work at it.....hope it helps!

people have been interpeting dreams since Old Testament Bible times read Danial ch.6-7
there have been many studies on dreams over the years. l believe Angel speak to us through dreams sending us warning or guidance. many symbols in our dreams have different meaning but studies are not alway accurate but they do give clear warnings when danger is approaching. go to http://www.dreammoods.com for a good dream interpretation.

It's all about symbols and what they mean to YOU. If you have a dream of being naked at school, think about what you feel about being naked when you are awake. I mean, if you found yourself physically naked, would you be embarrassed or proud? You could be "emotionally" naked, too. Just a cut and dry, honest person with "nothing to hide". I hope that I made some sense.
