My friend's husband hunts and got a doe and another deer which he will mount on their bedroom wall - above their bed!!?? It sickens and disgusts me. I also ran across the hunting show while channel surfing and it made my physically ill. I know hunting used to be necessary for survival but to see someone shoot a beautiful deer or any animal now just for fun just disturbs me so much.

what problem do you have? animals were put on this earth to make mans jobs easier and to consume. when you are chomping down that burger at bk or mcdonalds do you really think that the cows used to make it volunteered to become a burger? don't be such an idiot.

So anyway explain to us how you know there is a deer mounted over your friends husbands bed?

It depends on what kind of hunting you are talking about. If it is a canned hunt (Farm raised and hunted in a pin from 2 to 1000+ acres).

Hunting is a very integral part of the wildlife management schema used in many countries. In the US alone has over 30 million deer. Now we have so many deer we are getting stuff happening like CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) and car v deer accidents are threw the roof. In my urban area I see at least 5 to 10 deer v car accidents each week.

Not sure if you have ever seen a deer suffering from CWD it is not a pleasant death at all. Starving to death is not either. But hey when your insurance company makes you buy a special deer rider that is three times more than your normal insurance rate.

Animals were put on earth to provide for humans. Cut and dry. That is whey we have teeth for eating both meat and plant matter. That is why our digestive system is the way it is.

You do not have to like hunting. If you do not then just leave it alone. I do not like the giant SUV's but I am not running around trying to tell people what they can drive. Just leave me alone. I do not hound you about something you do.

Now when your area is over run with deer and you can not drive without hitting a deer do not call hunters to solve your problem. Or when that beauitful coyote drags your kid away by the head because there are so many of them they ran out of food. Do not call me to come and kill him. Just go out and sit down and talk to him and ask him to go away.

I'll tell you a little story that saddened and sickened me. When the everglades area came under heavy rainfalls several years back the state of Fla decided to open some areas to bowhunters to reduce the number of deer that were stranded on shrinking "islands" of habitat. The Fund For Animals spent millions of dollars in court to stop the hunts, promising that they would go in and capture and relocate the deer. The Fla courts split the difference. In the areas where the Fund For Animals stopped the hunts, they managed to capture 3 deer. One of the 3 died in the trap because the people forgot where it was, 1 of them died within 48 hrs from the trauma of being trapped and handled, and the 3rd wound up in a cage at a petting zoo for the remainder of its life. In those areas where the hunt was not allowed the deer herd suffered a 95% mortality rate with the deer that died starving to death and rotting where they died. In the areas where the hunt was allowed the deer suffered a mortality rate of just over 50%, with 99% of the animals that died being used to feed the hunters families, donated to local food pantry type charities, and many of the hides donated to be sold for cash for charities. Which would you prefer?

First of all real hunters do not do it for fun as you state. Hunters hunt to provide food for their families and to help keep the balance of nature in check.
As for the mounts in the bedroom, like another person said, why would you be in their bedroom anyways? Stay out if you dont like it, it is their home, not yours.
As for the TV, there is a thing called a remote, change or block the channel if you do not want to watch it!
Ignorance or people such as yourself gives hunters like myself and others a bad name.
Educate yourself then come and ask more sensible questions!!!

Well, Rachel, it is obvious that hunting is not for you. That's okay. Hunting is not for everyone. Just don't become one of those people who want to impose your values on others. Just avoid hunting shows and if someone wants to engage you in conversation about hunting, just tell them that you have a problem with that subject and simply excuse yourself. Let them know that you understand that there are people who enjoy the hunt but it is just not your thing. Do not be confrontational because you are not going to change their minds and I doubt that they will change yours. We ladies and gentlemen who hunt understand that not everyone shares our interest in hunting and as considerate people will not force you to endure our conversations about hunting. However, if you are in a room full of hunters , you cannot expect that all conversation about hunting will cease if you find it offensive. You may have to excuse yourself and go to another room where you can visit about other things. It's all about courtesy.

Is anyone else sickened and distrubed by hunting? No Rachel, not on this forum. And why should we be? Hunting is the natural order of things. Man hunts to survive. He shows off his trophies to prove he is a good hunter and provider. He provides his household with food staple he'd otherwise have to buy at the grocery store. The grocery store gets their meat from slaughter-houses and packing houses where the animals herded in for the slaughter have absolutely not chance of escaping. A hunter can always miss and the game survives until the next time.

Even if you are a total vegetarian you are killing plants to survive. So everyone and everything hunts: Bears hunt, wolves hunt, cats hunt and death by fang and claw isn't as merciful as a quick bullet.

So why should anyone be disgusted by hunting? Only hypocrites, I suppose.

Best.

H

Number 1: don't watch those shows
Number 2: look into conservation. Would you rather the country be overpopulated w/ these animals, and sit and watch them die of starvation? This is what would happen if conservationists/sportsmen did not hunt. There would be so many, they would deplete their own food supply and start starving to death. Watching poor animals suffer of starvation...now that is what sickens and disgusts me. There is no need for it. Most sportsmen I know do not just trophy hunt for fun, they actually either use the meat, or donate it to shelters.

Most hunters(myself included) do not hunt for "fun"! I was raised to eat what I kill! I have a few of my deer mounted in my house...so? If you don't like it...don't look!

Well hunting is a lifestyle (at least for me) it both of them want to have a buck put on the wall above their bed let them go for it what do you care?!? Look, hunting isn't for everyone and alot of people dont like what we do. But i just have one question for you. How do you think you get that burger or steak on your plate? It sure as hell didn't kill itself. :)

What sickens and disturbs me are people that look down on others.

Go watch Bambi a few times and relive that fantasy world where all the animals get along and don't kill each other.
