My daughter had a little bit of one bottle on Thursday. That was her last. She has only had 1 -2 bottles of drinkable yogurt, some juice from a juice box and a few sips of milk from sippy cup. She only cried for about 20 minutes on Thursday night because she wanted her bottle after dinner. She is not one to have bottle to put her to sleep, only after meals and with snack.

I offer Next Step formula, juice, soy milk, water and drinkable yogurt and she hasn't taken too much of anything.

Will thirst eventually kick in and make her want to consume liquid given in any form (sippy, straw, adult cup)? I'm even drinking from a sippy hoping that she will want to imitate me. I even offer water in her bottle.

Will my daughter eventually drink liquids from sippy or straw? When should I start to worry?

(additional info...I have different types of sippy cups including nuby.)

Just keep the sippy always out for her.

As long as a toddler is not sick, and they eat well during the day they will not dehydrate. You can ask your own doctor about that. They get quite enough liquid from their foods. Its still best for her to have a sippy of milk and juice and water during the day, but holding out like this for the sake of breaking her off a bottle is not going to cause her harm.

Start to worry if she stops eating, acts lethargic, or gets sick.

My son took a few trys to get used to milk in a sippy. I mixed it with ever so little a bit of ovaltine the first few times, he's never had a problem since.

KEEP THIS IN MIND: You don't wait for thirst to kick in or your baby can become dehydrated and that still not happen. Keep offering plenty of liquids from different containers, even water bottles with/without the nozzles. Try cool, melted ice cream; jello from a glass and let her drink the part that melted. I think that, although she's struggling against being weaned from the bottle, she may also be afraid of strangling. She is receiving a larger amount of liquid from a sippy cup than the amount that comes through the nipple of a baby bottle.

I understand your struggle because my granddaughter didn't want to give up her bottle. I finally bought a Barbie doll and a Barbie drinking glass. I showed her how to feed Barbie and offered her a drink of milk from the glass without first offering any to my granddaughter. She grabbed it away from Barbie and drank every drop of the milk. I washed the glass and set it on a table so she could reach it. Every time she wanted something to drink she went for her little glass.

Of course she will

Mine were on cups, straws etc during the day from when they graduated to sitting up in the high chair. Only one bottle, at bedtime, and that fizzled out at 15mo at the latest.

I don't blame her not liking the soya milk - it's nassssty LOL. The drinking yoghurt's probably a bit odd, to her mind, too. Just stick with formula, juice, and water - the things she already understands. If you want to stop her drinking out of a bottle; stop giving it to her! Why are you giving her a cup one minute, then water in her bottle the next? Doesn't make sense. Just stick to your guns; bottle for bedtime (for now), mug the rest of the time. Hell, mine could use a straw at about 8 months!

There will be people who say I'm being "cruel" - they're the ones with a 7yo running about outside with a baby bottle in their mouth. When that happens, I'm not the "cruel" one - I'm not the other kids teasing, or the mother getting them teased. I'm not the one with a kid with rotten wonky teeth either.

yes she will get the hang of it soon.. best thing is to eliminate the bottle all together.. out of site, out of mind..
And like the first answerer said..just offer that sippy cup constantly.. and try different ones... It took me a few different cups before my daughter liked one. She was drinking out of a regular cup my the time she was 2 (she's 2 1/2 now) When they get to that point, you just have to watch to make sure she doesn't pour the cup of juice, water, milk or whatever in various places lol
Good luck.
Don't worry, your kiddo wont dehydrate herself.

my mom had a daycare and some were 2year olds that wanted to drink out of a bottle still ,but we only had sippy cups... they all started crying but we told them there not getting a bottle and if they where thirst enough they will drink from what we gave them... it took about 2 weeks for them... as far as a brand...
i dont know just ones you can get from a grocery store... nothing special(the nicer looking ones are somtimes harder to drink from) and a straw? put something sweet in it at first like koolaid or sprite...

Consistently offer the sippy cup... and she should be fine. yes, she should drink when she is thirsty. If you are concerned... you might try removing the lid and see if she can drink that way too. (with help.)
