The military section is usually good, with a lot of incite and cross discussion, but there's this member who goes by many names. He keeps posting the same types of questions all the time. "...I've earned my DD213," or "Why are people so upset I earned my DD214". The same BS over and over. My Q's,
Why is a DD214 so special?
Doesn't every single military member get one, regardless if they served Honorably or not?

I'm not saying a DD214 isn't an important paper, I'm just saying, how does saying you have one, with no no further comment, prove anything other than at one time you were military? How does saying you have one distinguish you from any other military member? How hard would it be for a fake to say "I have a DD214 (at fist they said it was a DD213?)"? Is it an award?

The DD214 is the proof you served and what rank and ribbons you earned. All members get one but it sounds like you are letting a forum troll get to you.....trolls are those folk that dont have lives, like to cause trouble bravely from behind a keyboard (without a return email address and no picture) and are those people who go about proving how moronic they can act......

A dd214 can be important when looking for a job after the military, some employers now ask to see the dd214, there are 2 differnt dd214s a long and short version. The long version has codes at the bottom, say you got discharged under other than honorable conditions, your dd214 long version would have the reasons why you were discharged and if you were eligible for re-enlistment.., if you have a RE4 code on your long dd214 it means you are not eligible for re-enlistment, ther are also other codes on it. And say you failed a pee test, you would have a RE-4 enlistment code, and the long form would also have state at the bottom "misconduct/drug abuse. The military offers a short version of the dd214 so that members who may have been discharged under other than honorable conditions may be able to show thier dd214 to a future employer without the employer being able to see that he had a drug problem s the short versions omitts the re-enlist codes and nature of discharge, also the dd214 is required for any Veterans Administration services

Anybody that is so insecure or feeling worthless that they have to come on a forum like Yahoo and tell everyone they have a DD214 when no one is really interested must be pretty low on the totem pole, I guess the person should just be ignored and maybe they will grow tired of the stupidity of it. There is nothing really spectacular about earning a DD214 for 4 years service never leaving the US doing a relatively safe cushy job then coming online and demanding REAL vets give details of their service to him. I think the guy is warped and just doing it to anoy people and is most likely no vet at all.

The Defense Department form 214, is a summary of promotions, achievements, awards, deployments, education record of a military member released from active duty into a reserve status. Every military person receives it. Whoever the imbecile is that can't identify a proper form, or is always repetitive in a question is either a non-military wannabe or stopped the spread of a detonated IED with his head.

LOL....who said the DD214 was great? It shows that I finished my service with an honorable discharge and I was awarded the AF commendation medal. It also showed my assignments that allowed to be eligible to join the VFW. Yes all service members get them. And people who didn't serve don't. That is the difference.

The DD214 is very important, but it is not like I would frame it and put it on my wall.
BTW. I have two DD214s: one from 1993, the other from 2006.

The DD214 is the most important piece of paper in your Discharge papers, That is the only thing that makes that number significant. Yes EVERYONE who served gets one.

LOL, once I got out, I needed it to receive dang forgot what it is called when a person looses a job and you get money for a while until a person finds another job, then I needed it to get a retired licence plate, I thought I might need it to get into the golden corral to get a free meal, just to prove I was a vet and then I needed it to get a vet's ID card so I could use that to get a free meal at the golden coral, LOL, yea its important.

Everyone who leaves the service gets a DD214... I've even filled them out for those who died in training accidents.
It certainly IS important... for post-service employment, VA benefits, admission to the DAV, VFW, etc.
It also settles the HASH of many a bar-side warrior

Since I retired, I have had to produce MY DD-214 three times. Without it, it will be difficult, for example, to get any of your benefits due you. I have mine and my sons here at our house. My son and I both sent for an extra copy (which are in my safe deposit box) to back up the ones here at the house.
Yes, every military member gets a DD-214, regardless of the type of discharge.
Don't POOH POOH the importance of a DD-214.
There are scams that say they can get you a DD-214, but you have to pay THEM. It's free from http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html
We had to submit my dad's when he died so he could be buried in a Veterans' cemetery for FREE.
I take it you're not military with your attitude about a DD-214.
