Ask your friends and co-workers for recommendations of a good shop in your area. People are going to tell you who is honest and where they were not treated well! You will need to do this anyway when you have a car, someone has to do the maintenance and repairs that all cars will eventually need!

Have the car checked out by a mechanic prior to purchase! A warranty only covers certain things, that are listed in the warranty. For example most warranties will NOT cover oil leaks, worn belts, brakes, or batteries! A warranty is good, but it is no substitute for having the vehicle checked. It is well worth the $50-100 or so it will cost you to have the vehicle inspected, especially if is saves you from buying a problem!

It is not ok! You must do some research at the library and consider even buying a new car.
Certain brands and models are prone to their own particular problems.
It is also best to finance through a credit union who also offer better gap and mechanical break down insurance that the dealer can, gap insurance is to pay off the loan balance in case the car is damaged beyond repair by your insurance company.
You may also use a site like Edmund's.com to get bids on your purchase, I used it and I was very happy to avoid haggling and and get a good price.
Take your time and remember that gas will not be getting cheaper.
I recommend a Toyota Corolla automatic and all around air bags.
Also consider having the car at least ten years.

Good Luck

you can sometimes ask a local shop if they would raise it up, so you can see if there is any leaks, also ask the mechanic nicely and maybe he will look it over for you. Also since you have a computer go to www.kbb.com.Go to the tab posted used car values. Put in the info of the car you are buying, make, model, miles... Then check retail value. It will give you a close idea to what your vehicle would be selling for on a lot. Never pay retail for a car! If you are paying cash, Take 1,000 to 1,500 off there asking price and start there. That is if your not trading anything in. Stand firm on your offer.

Nothing acknowledged approximately if it is regular or automated however I might anticipate automated as it is a small compact vehicle. The indisputable fact that it has had head gasket paintings is wherein I might be involved. I might query who and wherein the paintings used to be performed. If no longer via a respectable, you would be shopping a competencies gigantic paperweight. Head gasket disorders don't seem to be effortless to repair and enormously steeply-priced because of the position of the top gasket and the crisis of constituents fundamental to take away to entry the top gasket for alternative. Do your homework on all the autos you possibly are all in favour of shopping. MAKE SURE to experiment force earlier than shopping ANYTHING. Make definite to force for no less than quarter-hour to ensure there don't seem to be cooling problems and so forth. or different more than a few disorders (windshield wipers no longer operating, no longer moving, no longer braking good, knocking, smoke, shaking, squeaking, leaking, and so forth.)

If the car is covered under the manufactuers bumper to bumper warranty still then you will have protection if something is found to be wrong.

Lacking that, look for a certified used car, typically they extend the warranty to 10 years/100K miles, whichever comes first.

Limited waranties from dealers cover a small part of the car for a limited period, you'll be taking a risk.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE THEN DON'T WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A USED VEHICLE THEN YOU NEED TO FIND SOMEONE OR SOMEPLACE TO INSPECT IT, NO EXCEPTING AT ALL.

IT A USED VEHICLES COMES WITH A WARRANTY, IT WILL USUALLY JUST COVER THE DRIVE-TRAIN AND NOTHING ELSE LIKE, WATER PUMP, RADIATOR, ALTERNATOR, ELECTRICAL AND SO ON.

YOU CAN ALSO GET FREE INFORMATION BY CALLING THE MANUFACTURER AND ASKING THEM. ALL YOU WILL NEED TO TELL THEM IS THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING THE VEHICLE GIVE THEN THE VIN AND THEY WILL PULL EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE ON FILE THAT HAS BEEN REPORTED.

ALSO REMEMBER THAT IF THE VEHICLE IS ANYWHERE NEAR A COASTLINE HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR FLOODING, I HAVE SEEN TOO MANY OF THESE VEHICLE GET PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE THEY WERE CLEANED UP VERY GOOD AND THE CUSTOMER GOT THE RAW END OF THE DEAL.
