I have a MacBook and I have yet to find any software to download that lightens the videos I have. I made one video and it's too dark- I can't see it! My boyfriend has a Dell and he's able to lighten it... any ideas??

Please don't misunderstand this, but Apple computers, have always been the industry standard for video and photo editing. It sounds as if you need the software to be able to do your task. Mac's come with some entry level software that will enable you tomake some changes, like iMove, and iPhoto for video and Photo's but these are entry level and are not proffesional software.
Any of the Adobe Photoshop's will do anything you want or need in the Photo area. Studio Pro likewise will do the same in the Video area.
These 2 programs alone are responsable for more proffesional photo and video editing than probably any others combined.

You already have an application for this. Open Preview. Click File > Open... and open the image. Now click Tools > Image correction. There are other, more extensive applications from free to hundreds of dollars.

Nowadays, even very expensive, professional software might be available for download. You just have to give your credit card number and all before the download will begin. When you say "software to download", do you mean "free"? Try Seashore or Gimp. Links below.
