When my guy calls me at work, he has a tendency to ask me if I am angry with him - or indicates that I sound like he is bothering me. He never is. I look forward to and welcome all his calls - and have repeatedly told him that. No one has ever told me that I sounded like this before - I don't think I do. But I would I soften the conversation so he doesn't get this perception?

It's early - my typing fingers aren't awake yet...

But how would I soften the conversation so he doesn't get this perception?

You're probably using your "business voice" and he's not used to hearing it. Having him call you during break is a better idea than than just calling "willy nilly" and catching you in business mode. explain that it's hard to talk like you want to when the rest of the co-workers are listening, they'll stop taking you seriously, if they hear you talk all gooey on the phone

sounds like you have a work telephone voice that might be different than your real life voice. Maybe you are a little nervous to be getting personal call while at work as most employers don't like them and that nervousness shows up in your voice. Try having him call during your breaks or call him when timing is in your control

I get this alot too. Maybe the stress from work reads on your voice. Then again he could just have no self confidence, a low self esteem, and a bad case of paranoia. If thats the case it's not your fault at all. I suggest you determine witch of these it is and go from there.

Sometimes, it's not the words you speak, but the way you say it or the tone you speak it. I have alot of people ask that sort of thing and 9 times out of 10 it's the tone of my voice.

you are probably doing work while talking to him. pauses in conversation (because you are trying to WORK) make him feel second to your job.

he just has to get over himself and let you do your job.

Smile into the phone, he will hear it in your voice.

Your guy is insecure with himself. Sleep with him, that will cure him.
