My husband is big into video games, and I'm getting him the playstation 3 for christmas. Which size hard drive should I get for him? (I think it's the hard drive, correct me if I'm wrong!)

Would it be likely that anyone would need more than 40 g?

Thanks!

Get the Playstation 3 that has the largest hard drive which I think is the 60 GB which costs about $600. The system was initially planned to have two HDMI ports, three Ethernet ports and six USB ports, though at E3 2006 this was later reduced to one HDMI port, one ethernet port and four USB ports, presumably to cut costs.[10] Also announced were two configurations of the console, a "60 GB" and "20 GB", for $599/€599 and $499/€499 respectively. The 60 GB would be the only configuration to feature a HDMI port, Wifi and a chrome trim with the logo in silver. It was announced for a global release date, November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America and Europe.

On October 18, 2007, SCEA announced that the 80 GB PlayStation 3 model would receive an immediate price reduction in North America to $499 (USD/CAD). In addition, the 40 GB model would be released on November 2, 2007 for $399, with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray as a pack-in. (USD/CAD).[

Well since you in the gift of giving...just joking and tell your husband he is so luck to have a wife like you. Enjoy!!!

Get the 80 gig ...More media options...sd card reader, memory stick reader and compact flash reader, as well as more usb ports and the more he discovers that he can do with the ps3 the more he will be disappointed that he didn't have those features.... As far as the 40 gigvs 80gig yes he will need that space eventually ....not today not this year but he will at some point. we have the 60 gig and it already has over 35gig used and for downloading game demos and stuff we keep most of all our music and video files on the exteranl harddrive that we originally used for media on our PC.

THe nice thing about the ps3 is that you can upgrade the harddrive with any brand laptop harddrive up to 250 gig.

The 40GB PS3 as far as I know is a cut down version of the 80GB, not just in terms of disk size. From what I have read the newly released 40GB model does not have backward compatibility with PS2 & PS1 games, whereas the older versions did. So it is worth checking if you need this.

Get the 40 gig its a hundred dollars cheaper and just as good. Unless you want to pay 500$+tax for a game console. Go with the 40 gig guarantee you, you won't regret it.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.

The new PS3s don't have backwards compatibility with PS2 games so I'd try to find one of the older models which I believe are the 80g systems.

Needing more than 40g is all very personal. If you just play games then probably not. If you have intentions of loading your box up with tons of photos and videos though then it fills up pretty quickly.

It should be noted that the new PS3s DO PLAY PS1 games. They do it via emulation though rather than hardware.

Ailey Jade and Carter Dawson is just too cute. Holly Rebecca and Weston Jasper is cute too, but my favorite would have to be Ailey and Carter. Good luck! =)

You dont really need 80GB of space on a PS3.

Go for the 40GB or 60GB - personally I think the 60GB is the most reasonable amount of space.
