It certainly channels your mind along paths set by other people which are unlikely to be correct although some religious people are able to overcome that and move along new paths, Darwin must be a good example of this as he was a devout christian and even delayed publishing his findings for 20 years for fear of upsetting his religious friends. It was only when his friend Wallace said he was going to publish his work in the same field that Darwin agreed to publish jointly

Depends on the religion. Cult-like religions which emphasize all-or-nothing, black-and-white thinking that cannot be questioned do. Religions that encourage honest questioning and exploration of different issues don't.

Paul Bullfighter: Indeed, there's a lot of truth in what you say. It can definitely be a chicken and egg question.

So narrow minded you can't squeeze a needle through. Much less a thought.

Paul, anything on bullfighting, yet? lol

Kokopelli, the trickster god! I haven't seen you since Arizona. That's where 8 Track comes up with his stuff. And, from sleeping on top. lol

all convictions leave you narrow minded, you do not need to follow a religion in order to have many narrow minded convictions.

Nah, but biased definitely. I know for a fact my religion has an impact on the way i think. But i'm considered liberal by the people of my faith. Although in general i'd still be considered conservative.

It may well be the other way around. It's quite possible that narrow-mindedness makes you religious, or more accurately, keeps you from moving beyond religion.

Well, it doesn't make you open minded. Some religious people are open minded in spite of their religion. For too many others, religion closes their minds, their ears and their hearts.

Yes, because it shuns all the other religions.
Every religion believes all the others will burn in hell.

Best to believe in GOD, and not join a religion "club".

Not really, or I wouldn't return to R & S to see what those who disagree with me have to say each day, regardless of tone and intent. Many make interesting points for their refusals to believe in Jesus, God, creation, etc. Many don't.

I have no problem with those who disagree with my beliefs. I just don't see why so many have to be so negative and mean-spirited (no pun intended) about it.

God bless you.
