how is it that when it comes to love relationships its rarely 'mind over matter'? why is it hardly ever a meeting of truley compatible souls? or do we change so much in a lifetime that people do not recognise eachother any more?

Last ent Wife. Congrat's on anniversary. Remaining faithful to the institution is a practical default but it does not answer the mysterious compatability issue many couples opt out; I simply wonder.

The two people need to be committed to something outside themselves, something greater than the both of them.

It also helps to give each other the grace to be human, meaning that NO ONE is perfect nor your "perfect mate," and it would be good if they were committed to the institution of marriage itself.

Life is a struggle and meant to be that way. This brings out the most in the human spirit and human potential. One needs to pick a relationship very carefully, not get blinded by romance. Be aware of what works best for you in a partnership. Like everything else in life, you must work at it hard, in order to achieve good results. People do not want to go through life alone. It is nice to have one close to oneself. One should try to keep up with the changes in a relationship. But, one should not go overboard and hang on in an unworkable, or abusive relationship. One can do quite a bit to make anything worthwhile work. Sometimes, the time one finally appreciates the value of a relationship, is when it is over, and one is alone.

When dating we put our best self forward. In marriage we reveal our true selves which is a different image.
