To become a Buddhist is to practice Buddhism. So you need to learn Buddhist practices and then do them on a regular basis. The best way to do this is to join together with others who are also practicing.

Fortunately, there are Buddhist centers in many locations throughout the world. There will be people at a center near you who can teach you how to practice and support you over time. Community life is one of the three "jewels" of Buddhism, so it's very important to be part of a community.

If you're fortunate to live close to several centers, visit each of them and find out which group seems most appropriate for you.

The link below provides a listing of centers in any countries. This listing isn't complete, but it's a good place to start. Good luck!

A few years ago, I took a look at Buddhism. I was quite stricken by how much the sutras paralleled Judaism.

Buddhism is not a religion. It is a way of life. As I understand it, they don't have a deity. It's a way of life that can be superimposed over other religions.

The general concept is that you work on one character trait until you master it, then move on to the next one. In that sense, it's much like a form of Jewish practice called mussar. The general idea is to take the middle or moderate way in life.

There is some information here:

The difficulty is in finding a group of buddhists to associate with. Hopefully you live in an area where this is possible. If you do, then contact them and see what you have to do.

May you be blessed on your spiritual journey,

Gershon

Good choice, the words of Buddha and the words of Jesus many times parallel each other. Both have the indwelling spirit of God or the Christ.

This Spirit is the spirit of divine love in man. It is in all men who come into the world. See John 1:9 in the bible.

The difference between some of us and those like Jesus and Buddah is that they realize this spirit of divine love, the Christ, God consciousness or Krishna consciousness (call it what you will) and it shines through them.

Let it shine through you!

There should be a Buddish center somewhere near you. Express an interest to that group or go online and express an interest and I am sure a teacher will come.

Make a few calls

Blessings and Peace to all,
All in all,
B

It's more of a philosophy but hey. I think it's the best religion among the rest. so yeah. =)) About joining buddhism though, i'm not sure. Guess all you gotta do is start believing, live by their values and there you go, a good buddhist. :D

Well I don't think they have an official conversion process....

But live by the 4 noble truths and the 8 fold path....

I think there are some other things, but those are the main beliefs in Buddhism....
