Tell him you want a cashers check because it's guaranteed by the bank. Straight cash would be alright too. You could get fukd taking his cc check. A cc check means it could bounce, meaning your out of luck.

I agree with the above statements made by other users. Cashiers check is the way to go. If thats the only way he has to pay for the car, you can tell him that he can write the credit card check out to himself for the sale amount, then deposit the check into his own bank account and withdraw the money in the form of a cashiers check to give to you. Make sure that you take the check to the bank and have it cleared with the teller before handing over the keys.

dont under any circumstances ever take a cashiers cheque this is a well known scam and the people telling or advising you to should be ashamed of themselves cashiers cheques are very easy to forge and every year thousands of people get defrauded with them. dont take nothing else only cash.
which is easier when you are in the bank draw the money or get them to give you a cheque. if they have the money they would draw i out to pay they would not pay the bank £25 for a cashiers cheque, would you be honest it is a scam dont fall for it. Also with a cheque from a credit card three % is added or very near to that figure as a surcharge would you pay that . also you will not know with a cheque wether or not the buyer is going over the credit card limit if this is so the cheque is just a worthless piece of paper and the credit card company will just refuse to pay you. also the buyer cannot get done because they are not like proper cheques where you can be nicked for writing a bad cheque, credit card cheques dont come under the same rules as ordinary cheques.
INSIST ON CASH BELEIVE ME NOTHING BETTER THAN THE GOOD OLD NOTES

No. There is no guarantee that the a/c is sufficiently funded, still open or will remain open. A stop payment can be placed on any check.
There are 2 ways to effect payment: cash or your buyer gets a letter of credit (irrevocable) from his bank to your bank.
Do not accept a bankers check, money order, certified check, etc...as these are easily counterfeited nowadays.

Take the check & the guy down to his bank and cash it. Get all of his information as if the check were to bounce, you can sue him for 10 times the face value on the check.

Since you don't qualify for a loan (lack of income, for starters), you best do the private seller route and see what $3000 gets you. It's almost ludicrous that broke people think they can buy cars on the cheap and expect a trouble-free ride.

Either get a cashiers check or cash, never take a personal check or anything else like that. The guy might be trying to rip you off.

All the buyer has to do is go to the bank and cash the check himself (these checks are considered cash advances) then pay you in cash.
If that can't be done, then take the check, give him the vehicle but hold the title until check has cleared. Once cleared go ahead and sign over the title.
