Our daughter is living with us and I let our daughter sleep in my room, and my cat started peeing in
my room...she is 4 years old and she never does that with me. Whenever, I went to my bed to sleep, I would call my cat, Kojak, and she would come to my room and sleep at the bottom of my bed after kneading me with her paws and would not pee in my room [even though she would sleep all night with me with the bedroom door shut]. I think my cat senses my daughter's crazy attitude with me and she misses sleeping with me in my room [now I sleep on the living room couch] so I think that my cat is marking her's and my territory in my room against my daughter.
So my daughter got mad and [I won't say how] hurt my cat...I grabbed my cat and took her out of my room, but my cat was not going to put up with my daughter hurting her, so she went back into my room after my daughter and swatted at her feet...any opinions would be appreciated.

The majority of your answers were great and positive in favor of my cat and myself, for which Kojak and I thank you. My daughter is 25 years old...I have 3 cats of my own, but we have an added cat staying with us right now...my daughter's cat....whenever my only female cat, Kojak goes into heat, she purrs, but never howls. Just recently our daughter's cat went into heat and she howled so loudly all day long and night long while she was in heat....instead of me getting mad at her [my daughter's cat], I break away from whatever I'm doing and talk sweetly to the cat and just upon my soft spoken words, the cat gets quiet and I pet her softly and she becomes happy and ceases to howl. I love all God's creatures and treat them with the utmost love and respect.

I know of a similar situation where my brother's cat was expressing himself on the bed. My brother was forced by his wife to give the cat to my Mom and that behavior stopped shortly afterwards. My brother was divorced sometime after that, so I think that kitty knew what he was doing.
I'm sorry the situation resulted in your daughter taking her frustrations out on Kojak. Don't get rid of either one, she will move out on her own hopefully sooner than later. But, I think you are right about Kojak's perceptions.

I don't believe cats have a mean-spirited bone in their little bodies, like, being "vindictive." But they do respond to mean-spiritedness in humans--IN THEIR OWN WAY. They also become accustomed to patterns in their lives, & when those patterns are disrupted, it can be very traumatizing. I think you're absolutely right about "marking" her territory. People often think that when a cat pees on your bed, (if you go away for awhile), they're getting "even." Not true.
Frankly, I think your 25 year old daughter should be sleeping on the couch, & shouldn't have a cat of her own. Why hasn't her cat been spayed?? I feel as you do, & the problem is your daughter.

~~~ Kojak sounds like a really awesome cat. Please pet her for me and tell her I said "Hi". I'm sorry your daughter hurt Kojak,that kind of behavior is uncalled for. In my home all cats are treated with the same respect as people. It is their home too after all. I have had to ask people to leave before when they violated that rule. I will not allow any form of abuse. It is not uncommon for cats to "payback" anybody who crosses them. I've seen it with my own eyes,and cheer the cat on. As for the bed problem....your daughter should be sleeping on the couch. That's yours and Kojak's bed,and Kojak wants it back. I don't blame her for peeing in there. She's doing her thing to get the "Intruder" out. Good luck. ~~~
Sounds like a protective cat. You really should keep an eye on him. You dont want him to get hurt to much more. Maybe you should take your room back. Not trying to be rode but i think that would be a good idea. And keep your daughter away from your cat.
Don't blame the cat! She is trying to protect you.
If your daughter is has a crazy attitude with you....you need to get your daughter help! This time it was the cat she hurt, next time it could be you. Or worse, kill the cat or you.
People that hurt animals usually get more violent because to a mental problem or drugs/alcohol addiction.
How old is your daughter? and why did she move back home with you?
A cat will never go outside of a litter box unless something is wrong. The something wrong can be physical or emotional. I have a cat that will leave protest vomit when upset about something. It sounds like your cat did not like your daughters presence. I'm sorry your daughter hurt your cat, it raises a red flag for me, but she is your child & you know her best. In my home, if my child hurt my cat out of anger, my child would be asked to leave, but I'm tough. I hope it works out . Blessings.
I think you pretty much explained it. Cats can be very jealous and possessive, and they have strong dominance hierarchies. You might try to encourage your daughter to gradually form a loving and much more safe relationship with your cat. In any case, if she doesn't love your cat, it might be useless. You can't punish a cat, except o isolate it with a litle "time out". That can work well. Any other punishment is just cruelty and does not work except to make the cat neurotic.
I am sick of people thinking that cats run the household.Its a cat show him/her his place in the house(meaning-hes the lowest of the low) I just finished cleaning up cat **** and im not too impressed ive tried chasing my cat around but he already knows what he did which makes him go hide like a little *****.
Get rid of the damn cat....your child should be a priority.I have a four year old daughter and im sick and tired of dealing with the constant screeching from my daughter when the stupid cat attacks her.My cat is going BYE BYE A.S.A.P-the **** this morning was the end of the end for him
well its obvious you need to put an ad in the paper for some one to take one of them off your hands. based on your question you might want to take some classes on bringing up kids or cats. the choice is yours. I'd get rid of the kid cause they will some day decide what home to put you in, the cat will die first anyhow
