I believe a jesus existed, I just don't believe the rest of the nonsense. I don;t believe the jesus of the bible existed as so much myth has been added it is no longer the same individual.

Historians are usually talking about a simple man who became a religious leader, not the mythological "Jesus" that atheists don't believe existed. Totally different things really. I don't doubt someone, a Jew let's use the label "Jesus", existed about 2000 years ago and took part in the formation of a new religion based on Judaism. I don't believe the mythological stories attached to this historical person. So hard to understand? Some strong dude called Hercules probably existed. I highly doubt he's the offspring of god and a human (sorta like how Jesus is supposedly ...)

There is only one brief mention of Jesus By a contemporary and that was a historian named Josephus. Other than that, the oldest New Testament is around 100 years after Jesus died. The other people you mention are well documented and did exist. The impact of Jesus' teachings are too profound for a youngster to grasp. Whether or not he was a real person is up to the individual. His teaching that each person, individually, are important to God and that no one person is better than another in heaven contributed to the form of government that we have now. Might not seem important now but back then it changed the way people thought. It planted the seeds of modern society.

I don't have a problem accepting that Jesus existed - I see no reason to doubt it. However Jesus existing does not mean that I have to believe in God. Jesus was just a man as far as I am concerned and in no way proves the existence of God. Why is it so hard for you to get your head around the difference between fact/reality and belief. I am happy for you to have your beliefs they just have zero meaning in my universe.

There are numerous contemporary accounts of the lives of Napoleon, Michelangelo, and Charlemagne. The are written records of their activities, including expenses. There are no contemporary accounts of the life of Jesus, and at best, one retrospective eyewitness account.

We have Napoleons bones, we have the battles he fought and He was not the Divine Son of God.
We have the works of Michelangelo, and even Charlemagne is a pretty concrete historical figure.
If you can not understand the difference in the type of evidence presented for them you must have truly lost touch with reality.

The problem is with people believing is that God gives them a choice, dear. God dosen't force himself on others. Just kind of relax, take off your briefs and try some boxers, than you should feel a little better. Things won't be all bound up! :o)

people dont believe in jesus because technically its not a documented fact. the bible says he existed but the bible is just a book written by man and can be seen as fiction. napoleon, charlemange, and michelangelo were around after man started recording history and it can be proved that they were alive in various ways. and unfortunately jesus isnt in any history books. again, save for the bible. the problem is that there is no PROOF. and without proof there is doubt.

The same is true for any ancient figure. Jesus of Nazareth is easily enjoys more historical evidence than any other.
However believing that Alexander the Great lived demands no decision. If Jesus was who he said he was, he demands a decision from everyone who hears of him.
(We believe that Alexander lived from the word of only two historians writing nearly 500 years after his death but that is fact.)
It seems safer for people to put their heads in the sand and ignore what is obvious. As long as they can convince themselves that he is not really God in the flesh, they can live life how they want.

There's historical PROOF that Napoleon, Michelangelo, and Charlemagne existed.
Do you just have something against reality?
P.S: Try getting another person to cut your hair next time. Doing it yourself in front of a mirror always yields bad results.
