how to start a charity?

i often raise money for charity and now would like to start a charity for a little known syndrome that my young nephew sufers from. anyone know how i go about setting this up

In summary: you have to form a board of directors, get start up funds (usually provided by the board of directors themselves), file paperwork with the IRS (in the USA -- outside the USA, it's with whatever government agency handles charitable registrations) and have the administrative systems in place to track donations and giving and provide full audits of such.
